should the US regret trying to wage a war on terrorism?   just because the fight is hard and the enemy is elusive doesn't mean the fight isn't worth fighting.

I wish people would be more realistic in appraising situations like this. The issues at the centre of the hacking debate aren't about whether the makers of I.P. get paid but the terms of control the I.P. distributors have. Copyright spawned off the needs of the book publishing industry and it has served the interests of the various publishing industries ever since. If it wasn't for hackers breaking the digital 'restrictions' management you'd all be paying double on your games/movies/music or more because that would cede complete control to the various publishing houses to set their own price on content which they have a monopoly on.

Tease.

The US hasn't been fighting terrorism, they have been fighting Islamic countries and killing hundreds of thousands of people; and making the lives of millions more miserable. The whole "War on terrorism" does not exist; it is merely a marketing term to get fools to support the hundreds of billions of tax payer dollars being spent on weapons for wars against oil rich countries.

Sony hasn't done anything even remotely as evil as what the US government has been doing.

So if that's true why's China (our "allegedy" future enemy) getting a chunk of that oil. Another crack pot i hate politics cause of this. OK so you don't believe in islamic extremist?

There are obviously Islamic extremists, but would you bomb all of the Southern United States, killing hundreds of thousands, because of the KKK and white supremacy? Would you bomb all of Ireland because of Irish nationalism and the IRA? What the US did in the Islamic countries was an act of evil, no matter how you try to spin it.

The point is, suggesting that the US fight on terrorism is the same as the Sony fight on hackers is false. First of all, the fight on the hackers is an actual fight, the "war on terrorism" is about declaring war on Islamic countries, not finding terrorists. If it was the equivalent, then most of the world except for a few neo-nazis here in Europe, and right wing yeehaws in the US believe that the war on Islamic countries is anything less than an evil act; therefore, the statement makes Sony look evil; but in fact, they were following the law, something the US and their business partners didn't do when they invaded Iraq.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I believe with all this geo crap they are still happy with the most piracy proof system around. They aren't in worse situation than MS or Nintendo - same shit but a bit more publicity. That's all.

This particular PSN thing was gonna happen regardless. It was just a matter of time.

in the end, their better off than if geo hot wasnt taken to court and jailbreak spead around the world costing them millions and losing 3rd party support as they did with PSP.

I love how people on VGChartz make blatant strawmen of one's arguments and hope one doesn't notice. PROTIP: you're supposed to make strawmen of people's arguments when you're talking to third parties and they aren't present to defend themselves.

Jailbreak has already spread across the world. Once an exploit has been found, you can never stop people hacking your system. All Sony is doing now is bringing attention to it and making people angry, which leads to more jailbreaking.

and piracy and legal and stopping it is illegal? since when?

I'm referring to their removal of OtherOS as illegal, seeing as it was completely illegal. Their removal of it was one of the factors that spurred hackers on.

I didn't say anything that any honest person could interpret as meaning piracy was legal.

removing features from a product (which are not core to its primary function) is not illegal.

attacking servers, pirating and hacking PSN is illegal.

thats why geo hot is in court and FBI are after anonymous and not sony.

anyways, PROTIP: dont study law because you dont even understand basic morals.

In Europe it is. If you advertise it, then you can't remove it, or you have to compensate your users.

Even they used it to import it as a computer, not a videogames system, so they pay less duties.

I don't condone piracy in anyway and what these hackers does is silly. If they do this to kick playstation out of the industry, I for one quits gaming and make my life more useful. Besides, the US looses much if ps goes out of business adding to the mounting problems of the economy. People needs to put on their thinking caps and know that, it is the profits that keeps a lot of jobs alive. PS forever and gaming i cherish.
