"The new 3DS Mario platformer briefly shown off last month at GDC could be on shelves before the year is out, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.

Speaking in a video interview with French siteGamesblog.fr, Nintendo's veteran creative lead said, "I promise to do all I can to deliver the new Mario game this year."

Aside from the four screenshots Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata showed off during his GDC presentation in March very little is known about the title."

Remember that Miyamoto is from the future, so "this year" for him is 2014 for us.

Would really be nice if it makes it for this years holidays.

I'm surprised to hear this, I didn't think there was a chance that they were aiming for a 2011 release date for this game. I assumed that Mario Kart was going to be the big holiday title, but it seems unlikely they would release Mario Kart, Mario 3DS (with Paper Mario in the mix too), that close together. Mario 3DS is the 3DS Mario title I'm most excited about, but I think it would be a mistake sales-wise to not have Mario Kart 3D release this year.

And Iwata says Zelda will be released in 2010.

No way this is coming before next summer.

I doubt it'll arrive this year - But at least this means that they’re pretty far along in development :)

would be a nice gift for us gamers to play this game.  i surely hope it some how happens  :)

if it happens I'm pretty sure people will shut up about the 3DS. No, wait, people will still blab on because "Nintendo is DOOMED!"

Why would Mario 3D undoom the 3DS?
