Suprising that many of you think 2010 was PS3's best year..

2010 was its peak year 34 14.66%

kim possible 18 7.76%

you know, I really don't care 25 10.78%

The ps3 wont sell much mo... 7 3.02%

it's downhill from here.. 16 6.90%

the ps3 hasn't seen its peak year yet 132 56.90%

Total:232

1. This gen is about to be forced into an end with new consoles coming out over the next two years.

2. No other game will cause a shift of any decent size. (games push sales more than price)

3. The slim model did more for PS3 sales than any future incremental price drop.

4. No one is saying it'll drop off like a rock. Just that It will be statistically tied with 2010 at best.

Heat suck.

if Sony drops the PS3's price to $199, i don't see how it won't sell more than last year =)

because at the same time you'll have a $99 Wii and a $150 360 as well as a $300-$400 next gen Nintendo/Xbox/PS4.

sony waiting that long would end up fucking up ps3's next potential peak year, but if they cut it this year, by introducing a slimmer model(the current ps3 is just a redesigned system that introduced a brand change/a cheaper way to make the console) at $199, or cutting the price to $229, they could easily end up selling more than 2010.

It's impossible to know, really, but I think you're right. This year or next year will probably be the PS3's peak year.

So, I voted Kim Possible.

so if sony cuts the ps3 to $199 lets say late this year(by announcing a SLIM PS3, the current "slim" is just a redesigned model to introduce a minor brand change) would nintendo have that $99 wii ready? The $150 360 is probable, if this were to happen, but it wont compete with the ps3 outside of the U.S considering it's $150 in many places outside of the U.S(and I doubt a minor cut would change much, unless microsoft sells it for $99) especially in japan, were the ps3 has the most room to grow

and the first nexgen system may not be here until mid to late next year

Let's be realistic. There is no way Sony will have a $100 price cut; $50 at most. With that we know the others will match (Wii is already rumored to be dropping $50).

While there will be an immediate bump in sales, regardless of the amount, previous price cuts on any system have proven that only lasts 4-8weeks. Then it goes back to where it was before.

well i knew ps3 would have its best year so far this year and even that it would outsell the other 2 http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=117165

as for peak yr i think it will be either 2012 or 13, i only see it going down to $250 this yr and then 200 at 2012.  i believe 2012 -13 will be the last holiday season or whole year ps3 sees increases year over year

If the new Nintendo console is released next year and is obviosuly more powerful then the PS3 than I think it will put a major dent in any idea of a PS3 peak year. Hardcore gamers love powerful hardware and Ninty could still attract casual gamers.

I will not buy Nintendo's next console at launch this time, I feel I got burned big time on the Wii as a gamer and I'm not the only one thinking the same I'm pretty sure.  Some of the best Wii titles took over 6 months for localisation before being released, that's just not good enough.
