Forums - Sales - Why do you think Killzone 3 isn't selling well?

I bought Killzone 2 and thought it was mediocre so I may pick up 3 when it's cheap.  The game isn't bad by any means but there isn't anything special about it.  I'm the only one I know that owns it.

Obviously its because Killzone 2 was underwhelming.

Its one of few AAA games that had a lower opening than the predecessor.

Again your ignoring sales in comparison to individual platforms.  Halo oustsells PS3 versions of COD and hangs with or outsells the 360 version of COD in every case EXCEPT for Black Ops.  One game in a series is hardly comparable to the overall sales of a franchise on a console as a whole.

And are you honestly trying to compare adding up all sales for the game on every platform and compare them to the sales of an exclusive game on one?

Why do you keep saying only Black Ops has managed such high sales, and then ignore the fact that Halo 3 is far ahead of all the other Halo games?  CoD4 outsold every Halo game besides 3.  Modern Warfare 2 is 1 million above Halo 3.  Now obviously Reach is going to keep selling, but it's not like Black Ops is some anomaly.

Also you mentioned that being multiplatform gives Call of Duty more exposure.  Does that mean you think a 360 exclusive would sell less than the 360 version of a multiplatform CoD?  Would those 10 plus million people just not be interested in a 360 only Call of Duty?

No the answer is obvious.  Black Ops pwns Halo 3 and Reach on 360.  That is all.  I've never debated that. Black Ops and Call of Duty have managed something Halo has never done.  That being said when looking at THE OVERALL GENERATION Halo on individual platforms has hung with Call of Duty.

I'm just not so sure COD will continue to grow I think its hit its max and the next Call of Duty and Halo ON INDIVIDUAL PLATFORMS will be much closer again.  Activision themselves said they believe there will be a dip in the next COD, while Reach is outselling Halo 3 in a comparable time frame.  In other words I think Black Ops was the big hooah for COD and has proven it IS number one.  I never debated that.  What I did debate was the claim that per console COD pwns Halo, cause quite frankly thats false.

I never meant to put this into a COD vs Halo thread, discussing games isn't such a serious business you know.

It also launched up against a significantly more packed release schedule and is well ahead of KZ2 in America despite the lower opening.

This is very simple. Read the bolded.

"The only franchise in the world that can hang with Halo in terms of FPS fanbase is Call of Duty."

Halo Reach =8.21 m sold.

COD: Black OPS= 24.04 million.

Roughly triple it's numbers and it's doing this annually at the moment. By the end of this gen, COD will be the best selling series in one genration ever. I think it's at 85 million plus so far this gen.

Its honestly starting to get old for the 360 fans on here and I'm a huge PS3 fan as well but I usually don't even spend time sideing with it in discussion because the debates on this site are so unbalanced someone needs to be actually complimenting 360 stuff.

The PS3 version of Black OPS has outsold Halo Reach with less time on the market by 1.61 million. The series is growing, and it's utterly gigantic as this stage. Who would have thought a FPS on the PS3 could rival Halo?

I did compare the sales of the two series, and I think it's very telling. You were right to correct the other poster. There was never a problem, I had an issue with your original post, you stated something incorrect, so I addressed it.

Well Killzone 3 is actually the first fps to ever make me enjoy it's online multiplayer. I've given just about every fps's online multi a try, including KZ2, and always found myself becoming quickly bored by the experience. Killzone 3's multiplayer is pretty darn sweet, and it definitely took me by surprise; however, imo if they want to gain higher sales they need to do 2 things:

1. Add more game/multiplayer modes!!!! I thought with KZ3 they were gonna go crazy with content and different multiplayer modes, but they barely added any! I was stunned and irritated when I first found out. Look at Halo. I'm not personally into Halo, but the amount of game modes they include in their multiplayer imo is one of the, if not the, main draws for the game. I know Sony likes to let their developers do what they want, and I respect the heck out of them for being so lenient; but in the case of the KZ series, they need to have a talk with GG before they release the next game in the franchise. As is my obvious opinion, the multiplayer that GG does create is fantastic; but they just need to add more content. They need to leave the consumer wanting for nothing that isn't included in the game.

2. Take the gore and profanity down a level or five. Adolescents and children make up a significant portion of the gaming population. For most kids up to the age of 15 yrs old, parents are often in charge of what games they play. Many parents are not okay with their child playing a game where he/she will be gouging people's eyes out with their thumbs or stabbing people in the eye with a knife. GG is alienating a significant potential fanbase by putting so much excessive violence, as well as profanity, in their games. Again, I think Halo is a good example of this.

That's my take on it. Again, I love the KZ3 multiplayer. I was convinced I would never enjoy an fps's multiplayer until KZ3 came along. But it def has a lot of things it needs to improve for the next sequel.

1.  Cod is a bigger franchise than Halo for sure.  No one including me ever debated this.  COD IS NOT a far bigger franchise per individual platform as a whole.  Again one game in a series outselling the other by a significant amount isn't the same as pwning an entire franchise this should be obvious.  Thing is again your comparing sales of an exclusive game to sales of a multi-plat, hardly comparable in any way shape or form.

2.  There should be no problem with my original post I never said anything that wasn't true.

3. If your really trying to even insinuate that I'm someone who defends a piece of plastic and metal cause I feel any allegiance at all to it your wrong.  I could care less about "teh conzolz warz" and who wins.  What I AM defending are the fans of said system who quite frankly are treated pretty unfairly in many threads on this site.  It has created an air of hostility to many 360 fans who are always on the defensive when discussing it and its games.  Go into most 360 realted games thread and see how many times you'll see games like God of War, Killzone, Uncharted, Infamous, and countless other brougsht up even when said thread is firmly in the MS forums.

Doesn't matter. Most AAA successors have a considerably bigger opening than the predecessor.

Not only did KZ3 not match KZ2's opening, but it was well under. Consumers feelings about KZ2 is more to blame than anything.
