Forums - Sales - Why do you think Killzone 3 isn't selling well?

it is selling well. what is everyone expecting? and where did this myth that the 360 exclusives sell 10 million each come from? the only big selling exclusive microsoft really have is halo . gears of war also sells well. sony have GT5 as their mega seller and they have alot of top sellers too like metal gear and uncharted and the rest all sell very well.

From my experience with Killzone 2, Resistance, and Lost Planet multiplayer is that these games appeal to a smaller audience, and gameplay isn't as balanced, or applicable as Call of Duty or Halo. I mean in Lost Planet for example, get in a VS and you're on a kill streak, and the concept of using a grapple to climb is unusual.

When I say less addictive multiplayer, I'm probably using a poor choice of vocabulary. With my first point, I mean to say that the multiplayer keeps less people in. With the second point, I mean to say it draws less people in.

I don't think the second point is debatable. For the exact same reasons battlefield see's 1/4th as many sales as a CoD title. It's not THE multiplayer game to play, so it's brushed aside by most because a lot of gamers dedicate themselves to one game franchise

That bold comment I think is extremely biased. FPS sell better on 360 for the simple reason that there are 5:3 360's to PS3's in Americas, and Americas is about (2/3) to (4/5) the FPS market (depending the the game). Look at Call of Duty and Halo, and you will see most sales are in Americas despite PS3 having roughly the same sized market in EMEAA. The only time a 360 FPS sells more then 40% a PS3 FPS is when the 360 version is advertized more, as in the case of Homefront.

As for preferences, everyone has their own. I'm a big Lost Planet 1 fan(Not 2, 2 way terrible), but it never sold that well, even as an exclusive (timed, but who knew when it came out?). Halo, CoD, and Gears sell well because A. They are actually great polished games which get very high reviews, B. They appeal to the masses, similar to Mario Kart.

Killzone desrves more sales, but with 3 exclusive shooters to balance on the PS3, all relatively new franchises, and a much smaller instal base in the Americas region, I can see why sales are slow.

BTW for me, I tend to play almost every online game I can get my hands on, even if the experience is only par. I mostly play online, and I burn through all the online achievements/trophies relatively quickly. Only time I stop playing online for a game is when matchmaking takes a long time, and has unbalanced matched. That's why I stopped playing Front Mission online. When I get Crysis 2, I'll play it online, even though the MP demo kind of sucked. I'm currently only playing Halo and CoD online, but craving a new experience.

P.S. I find it funny to always see CGI in an arguement..

I agree FPS sell better in the Americas. I have noticed games like Viva Pinata and some other forgettable games get very large sales on the 360. I may be in the minority of game feel, but it seems to me that every Capcom game has horrible controls, most 3rd party games on the PS3 also suffer from this. COD for me is just boring and tends to suffer from the same control issues. In my experience the 360 has this issue with most of their games. Halo and Gears to me were not that great. Sure they sold a lot but for me sales don't mean it is a great game. If we went by that logic then the Wii was the best console this generation and Top Ramen was the best food in the US.

What control issues are you talking about? What I don't like about CoD on PS3 is shooting with the R1 button instead of the trigger R2 button. Just feels wrong. That's the only control issue I can imagine. The 360 controller is really well designed for shooters, I mean the RT and LT buttons are trigger buttons, shaped like the trigger to a gun.

Sales don't mean a great game at all, they just mean an acessable game with a broad audience, and proper hype. Mario Kart is a fun as hell game, but the reason it sells so well is because everyone can play it and have fun. Not just gamers too, girls, parents, young children, anyone. Call of Duty is a pretty simplistic shooter, and so is Halo. Not to mention these games established themselves early on, so all they have to do to gain sales is release a new game with minor tweaks every now and then. Games like Killzone and Battlefield have to define themselves, which is hard when people don't easily switch over franchises.

In the end, everyone has their preferences. This is why you should judge a game by reviews, and your own experience in store, at a friends, or in a demo. I mean I think Metroid Prime 3 is the best shooter this generation, and it's sales don't back that up.

I'm sorry but I think PS3 is better for tps and I like COD better on PS3. The 360 controller is a bit bulky and It feels really weird when you play a game like Gears. Untill MW2 I used to be all multiplat shooting games only on 360 but then I switched over to the PS3 because I find the controlls more soft and comfartable.

enviroments are hard to get into even the hellgast with there skirts

storys not epic

no online co-op campaign

the first two above bug me, it does have good gameplay or gun play comparible to some of the popular FPS this gen

waiting to see what GG next game is they said they were doing something else for ps3 other thatn KZ

Why are TPS's better on the PS3? I find the controls in Gears of War more intuitive then Uncharted, and with the biger trigger buttons, Lost Planet feels a bit better on the 360. Also for some reason on PS3, I always hit the home button when I want to press select.

Everyone has their own preferences, the Playstation controller is too small IMO, I like a controller which I can hold in both palms, not just the fingertips. I think the Gamceube controller is the best to hold, but the c-analog stick doesn't feel responsive enough. I like deep, pressure sensitive trigger buttons, and that could be why shooters are more accepted on 360.

Also like I said, I really don't like CoD on PS3 because you shoot with the R1, and not the trigger button. It defeats the purpose of a trigger button to me, and throwing a grenade just feels right when you can hear your controller click.

Well my hands are pretty big but at the same thime skinny. I find the 360 contols a bit akward at times which prevents me from playing my 360 that much. BTW I think Gears controlls are a bit too tacky and sometimes late. But the Gears 3 Beta really improved that part. I think Uncharted is better than Gears in like every single aspect (except survival/ horde). I find the shooting button better on PS3 and same with the grenade button. I think the triggers for 360 are too small and it's not really evenly spaced out. Like you said it's personal chocie though.

Everyone has a preference, and aren't 360 trigger buttons bigger then PS3's? I'm a pretty average guy, and I find the PS3 controller just too small for extended gaming, I don't like how the PS3 trigger buttons are flat because when I click then I want to slide my finger off entirely.

And I have yet to play Gears of War 3 beta, soon.

I have played it and it's pretty awseme. But it's really different from Gears 1 and 2. I liked few changes I disliked but some changes but overall really amazing! You should try it out.

This Sunday I will. I didn't get BulletStorm Epic edition so I have to wait a week.

I've never actually read, heard, or seen somebody say that they would actually like using those trigger buttons on the ps3 controller for shooting, i always loved the controller but those triggers are fucking garbage for shooting. I don't understand why sony changed that button but oh well.
