Well they didn't have a lead in the home consoles then, nor were their competitors looking to stretch things out.

That means that announcing a console would be to get the jump on the other guys more than just for the sake of a console cycle. That's more to these threads in general than you specifically.

Plus "fair" is thrown around too much in discussions these days. That line was supposed to be about mitigating some amount of criticism, not as a prefix to any counterpoint one gives.

That is NOT a reason to believe something without proof. In case you hadn't noticed, this is entirely based on hearsay (some sites claim that they have sources). That is always to be considered unproven.
