I like the idea of rewards, buying cheats and everyone having more of a say on what goes on as opposed to 'staff' doing all the work
|
We already had that... ^
|
I know, we should bring it back is all. They stopped it before I joined...
Also, I just want a nice, confirmed release date. Is that so hard?
|
Yes, it really is, lol. When the development team is as small as it is, any unforeseen errors or bugs can set them back days. Add in constant requests for new tweaks and features, all of which have to be discussed and debated amongst certain staff, then designed and implemented from scratch, and a backlog soon builds up. I don't think it's easy to comprehend how much work it all takes. The ETAs kept getting pushed back, which only leads to more disappointment. That's why Brett's stopepd giving ETAs altogether now.
P.S. what do you mean by you'd like everyone to have more of a say on what goes on? Like what sort of things?
Anyway, just tagging the thread. I'm going to come back and try to respond to as many posts as possible later, once I have the full facts.

I'm well aware of the reasons why we can't have a confirmed release date, but it's just like I know the next Wii or generation of consoles won't be free. It doesn't stop you from wanting it to happen...
Making a site is difficult, I know that from personal experience. And then that was only a small site, this has WAAY more stuff on it, and that must take a lot of work. We all appreciate the work you're all putting in to do it, but that only makes the wait even MORE agonising!
As for more say on what goes on on the site, more stuff like the badges thread. It would be nice if everyone felt like they had contributed to the site in some meaningful way, not just making threads and posting and the like. Not only would it be easier for you, but you'd get a wider range of ideas and more input, making the end product greater than it would have been just by yourself.

Well I do where possible. With the badges and forum design concepts (we actually changed our plans as a result of that thread and went with a user's suggestion), for example. But for the most part, there's enough divergent opinion on the staff as it is, adding more opinions to the mix would just be overwhelming and it'd take ages to make a firm decision.
It was easier when Talon was around, because he was able to act as a general tweaker/fixer, and could implement basic features that users suggested by himself. We don't have anyone who's filled that role, which is why a lot of minor annoyances (the plus sign, no paragraphs in pms and wall posts, etc.) have persisted and won't be fixed until the major update.

Don't forget &s!
I suppose your right, and I see that the site is going to become far more open as well. I see what the general idea is, and why it will take so long to get there.
It wasn't a criticism, it was just a general point really. The more forum activity you have, the more people will join the forum, the more traffic the forum gets, the more money the site gets, the more features can be added, the more people come to the site etc. If there's a reason for people to come to the site and stay on the site, they will. And a big incentive for that is becoming a member of staff (*cough* *wink* *cough*
) ATM, but the more the normal user can do, the less of a workload you guys have to worry about, so more gets done, and quicker to boot!
It's a win win situation, and without having that incentive, or at least the oppurtunity for users to do things to help improve the site (I know I've become more active lately off the back of the badge thing), the harder it will be to improve.
That's my opinion anyway. And it's good to hear the no paragraph on wall posts thing is going as well!
