Forums - Nintendo - Wii 2 may get Blu-ray drive

well the 3DS is going to get movies in 3D, not sure why Nintendo would disable blu-ray playback if the machine has a blu-ray player in it. Sounds like they want to become the full entertainment machine...

I think Blu-Ray is a must, if Nintendo wants to compete with XBox and Playstation

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

People that hate Nintendo might not realise. But Nintendo will NEVER use another  gaming companies products or ideas. Nintendo sticks to their own stuff, they always have. Blu-Ray won't come close to being near any Nintendo product.

No, absolutely never.

Just like Gamecube had an optical disc drive and 3DS got an analog thumbstick.  Oh wait...  They would never do anything like that.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

How? Storage size is not a much of an issue anymore.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

You seem to forget that it didn't hurt sales. And before you bring up the GC, that was when DVD was new, and lack of true mainstream games was still a greater factor.

Not really. If people didn't go "It's on a Playstation, I have to get it!", they aren't going to go "It's on a Nintendo system, I have to get it!".

Well,I know quite a few people where Blu-ray was part of the purchase of the PS3.  If it isn't everybody, it is some people.  Heck, my parents got a PS3 just for Blu-ray.  I know, anecdotal.

If Nintendo and MS have it (I strongly think MS will have BD playback standard), then it does help the format penetration.

The point were those who didn't think it was enough, not those who did.
