I see! sony is removing another essential and well loved feature to replace it with some undobtebly inferior product!

Unless I'm forgetting something, thus far Sony hasn't replaced anything, instead they've just removed stuff. So... That joke might not be that good after all :)

Anyway, great news if true! Don't care about the web browser that much anymore but I used to use it quite a bit.

Really? They haven't added 3D? They haven't added Netflix app? Qriocity? updated the photo software? Added Playstation Life? Online backup? Just to name a few. The only thing I can recall them taking away was the other OS. Thank Geohot for that.

You made it sound like when they were removing features, they were actually replacing them with something better. That's what I answered to, not 3D and such. (And personally I don't remember seeing Netflix or Qriocity over here, whatever the latter even is.)

I hope this one doesn't freeze my PS3 like the current browser does sometimes.

I think the PS4 should have some sort of MSN integration allowing you to chat with people while you are playing games (the MSN window should be in the background and the game in full screen, you press the PS button and go to the PS4's OS and open the MSN window from there).

The same goes for the browser... the PS4 should have Chrome or Firefox... I can only dream of having both a game and a browser open at the same time on my PS3... you can't even synch trophies while playing a game, lol.

Yes you can, it just doesn't do it automatically when you go to look at the trophy list like it does when not in-game.

Agreed. I do it every time i get a trophy in a game. Annoys my brother to death

i use the ps3 browser everyday, there are lots of sites that work well with it, like blinkbox or ps3 tube

all i ask for is cross game chat and updated browser and they will have another psn sub from me

This would be nice and something I shouted for when I first heard about Sony teaming up with Google in the mobile space.

Hopefully this one would allow silverlight so I could go to Netflix from that vs the new crappy redisigned Netflix  app. I really hate how they changed this app.

DLNA functionality, upscaling DVDs and Remote Play, all added before the end of 2007.

Blu-ray profile 2.0 became functional, DivX and XviD playback was added, as were trophies, VidZone, PlayTV support and Flash support in the internet browser.

And in the last 12 months or so, we’ve seen 3D support for games added, PlayStation Plus, Facebook integration, ABC iView and support for the Move motion controller, all that was lost was the ‘Install Other OS’ option.

iPlayer, 4oD, ITV player, LoveFilm.  75% of PS3 functionality has been added since launch.

That comment about Sony not replacing anything is without doubt one of the silliest I have ever read.

OT: I never used the PS3 browser because I find it rubbish. I don't care what they use it surely can't be any worst than the current one.

I think there's been some misunderstandings on both sides here, but you missed my point. Replacing a feature with a similar but better feature is OK but "replacing" a feature with a completely unrelated feature can be a rather shady practice. The thing is, if they take away OtherOS and give us 3D, I don't see it as replacing. I see it as removing a feature and then separately adding a new feature. It's two completely unrelated events.
