Yeah I think it will be; and it could be really great. Personally I can't believe that we never had one on DS.
I just hope the online actually works well this time...

Any change would be better.

Instead they spend most there time trying to make brawl play exactly like melee instead of just learning or leaving the game. Or you could just Melee all you want. Didn't stop Third strike arcade palyers for a decade. As for smash on 3DS, LOL no. 3 hour battery life for smash? Talk about lowering your standards. |
Thing is, there's not much to learn in Brawl :P
Melee wasn't as much about learning things as other fighting games (due to it's more simple nature), however, in order to play at a "competitive" level you had to practice a lot of techniques that make you move faster, or move in different ways.
Now, I understand why the Brawl players want these techniques again, they make the game faster, and allow for more ways do decieve your opponent, however, I don't understand why they add the pointless technical difficulties for their SSBB (or whatever), lowering the technical barrier for games allows more pepole to get into the meat of the game, and allow for more interesting games.
Oh, and Brawl also has tripping (why?) and the hitstun is reduced so much that combos don't exist anymore.
Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.
The 3DS would break within a few weeks or months. The analog would get worn out pretty quickly.

Exactly, another reason why it would be a system seller.

Stop generalizing. There are still a lot of people that play Brawl competitively and are still exploiting new mechanics.

Maybe a character list more oriented towards Nintendo's handheld games. Bring Back MewTwo, add some other Pokemon, maybe some new Fire Emblem Characters, Issac from Golden Sun, etc. A Nintendogs level would be cool too, and Chris Redfield as a non-Nintendo character would be awesome.
Smash Bros and Pikmin are the two console IP's Nintendo has that I think would work well on the DS/3DS.

I don't know about, Nintendo has a history of making reliable controllers. In my twenty plus years of gaming, the only controller I ever had break on me was an N64 analog stick, and that was because Mario Party literally grinded it down to a dust, and the dust not only clogged it, but the smaller ball had troubles staying striaght.

The more casual aspect of the fighter makes it ideal for the handheld market. You're not going to get really serious on a handheld game, like you would a home console game.
Also a 3 hour battery life is a serious flaw of the system, but I don't think I've ever played Smash Bros for longer then 3 hours straight. Most people get handhelds to play for 20 minute bursts, and with 5 minute matches, thats pretty ideal.
Hope the 3DS remake has a better battery, like the DS Lite did. I can see sales jump when that comes out.

Their controllers are reliable, true, especially when they are dropped. Try playing over a thousand hours of melee, both competitively, and for fun, for 6 years. My first controller I ever bought for my gamecube cannot be used because the stick is worn out and cannot stay straight. Maybe I was being too hard on it :D
