I'll pretend I didnt read that...

...Why? Don't you think that Super Mario Bros 3 is fun? |=

Whats the way to answer to that without getting banned by Maxwell for having diffrent opinnion and at the same time be accurate?

No, I do not.

Wait...or I got it wrong or your post is a little misleading, you haven't played ONLY Little Big Planet, are you? Because LBP is a great creative tool, but as platform is almost abysmal, and platform is my favourite genre.

However, I agree with the first part of what Rol says...using your (the OP) logic, GTA it's better than any game since you have car driving, you have shooting, you have fighting...but what a game like this lacks is depht in any department. I mean, you can't compare GTA driving to GT5 driving, you can't compare GTA shooting, to Killzone shooting and you can't compare GTA fighting to Tekken fighting. The same logic applies to platforming. You may don't like the genre but it doesn't mean that the so-called platforming you get in sandbox games is better than the real deal.

As for what I like about platforming, as the others have already said I ilke the learning curve, the ability to imporve your skills just for the fun of it. Of course a platform needs a great control scheme and a great level design to let you do that.

The problem is that you were playing LBP 2.

That's enough to turn anyone off from platformers.

A well-made platformer is about far more than just jumping. Anyone can make a game where you jump from platform to platform; it's not very hard at all.

Creating good levels, on the other hand, is extremely difficult, especially if you want the player to stay interested in more than five minutes. Nailing the gameplay mechanics isn't easy either.

Anyway, I love platformers (mainly 2D ones) because they are fun as hell. Pure awsome funiness.

LBP is not representative of the platform genre.

I love it and it is a fantastic game, but IMO it is an average platformer due to it's often mediocre platforming.  The rest of the game is fucking awesome though.

It's gaming in its purest form. Easy to learn, but hard to master.

1)And no, a game like Contra doesn't do platforming better, simply because the jumping mechanics are severly limited. That isn't a bad thing though, because it's fitting with the playstyle of a game like Contra (it's about shooting stuff and dodging projectiles). I guess what I am trying to say is that comparing Contra and Super Mario is silly, you might as well say that a Tales of game does fighting better than Soul Calibur, because it's just part of the experience and not the entire game.

2)In the end this thread is just adding another layer to your ignorance when it comes to certain types of games. We already knew that you don't play games that lack a story and now you are telling us that if you don't shoot anything, then it's no good either.

3)Perhaps you have never played through an entire platformer that actually demanded skill and that's why you think that a whole game revolving around platforming can only be boring. I wouldn't be surprised, if you were to tell us that you have never played beyond the first two worlds in any Super Mario or Donkey Kong Country game.

4)But anyway, you having a different taste in games is not going to be an issue. However, your attitude to call people who happen to like the games you despise sad is what's going to get you into trouble. You know I will be there the next time you slip up. Just watch it, pal.

1) Contra and Mario really aren't all that different. Yeah your right in saying that Contra isn't really focused on the jumping and therefore falls as a platformer, but what i was trying to get accros is that Contra combines the Platforming and its a better game for it (than mario imo).

2) I do play games that lack stories, LOTS of them. What i don't do is finish them. I played Mario Galaxy, i played Super Mario Borthers wii and 3 and 2. Never finished any of them. And read my first line, i said "a good game is good" and i know one when i see one. And mario games (for the most part) are damn good. Its just that i find them boring.

3) Whether i am skillfull or not does not matter. I suck at fighting games, i still love them though. Specially the ones that have a story. But either way they are competitive and there are acutally mechanics tothe fighting. I see none in platforming when all that is invovled is jumping to dodge or land somewhere perfectly.

4) I never called anyone sad (thats a bannable offence). What was sad (if you are reffering to the other thread) is that no one demands maybe a little change from (Nintendo in that case, it happens with the other companies as well). Maybe a new IP here and there. You can play Mario games all you want bro.

lolololol. No LBP@ just made me realize that i dislike most 2D platformers. I thougt it was just Mario games, but then LBP2 bored me too lol. Its just the fact that all you do is jump and jump. Just isn't for me i suppose.

I don't like games like Infamous. But I like "some" games like Mario platformers. I like FPS games, but I hate current gen FPS (Except for Crysis).

I think you would like Halo then.....

@OP  just not your thing, I used to be able to play Mario, Sonic, CoolSpot, TinyToons, etc. for hours upon hours back in the 16bit era, i got older my taste in games change. I still play those games now and then, but only for about an 30-45 mins then i get bored. I think i just had my fill in the 90s but i am liking these new hybrid ones, at least there tyrying to keep things fresh, Braid, Trine, LBP, games that just arent 2d platformers. 3D im more responsive too, because for the most part they have a story and that goes along way to keeping my interest.  Sly Cooper, R&C, Mario Galaxy is good. YOur an Infamous fan and havent tried Sly??

Platforming games are the purest form of action games.  That's why I love them.
