Yeah... I personally think he says things like this FOR the message boards, I think Sony has known this for a while and try to do it on purpose, cause the masses aren't seeing this unless it's in game informer even then it's not going to be THAT many seeing it, the ones that actually do read that terrible mag for information already isn't in the know anyway.

These statements are broadcast to those in the know, it pisses the reasonable ones off, and gives justification and ammo for people who back Sony without question where they'll repeat it, announce it, or pester others with it until they're tired of hearing about it, there was a reason I hated coming on message boards in the PS1 and PS2 eras, it wasn't till this gen that the spell has somewhat broken over these sorts of people.

This is very true, time after time Tretton has put his foot in his mouth, and no one fires back at him cause that's really the immature thing to do.  Most of these business men act like grown men and not like they're still in high school having to call things childish, cause only the immature care what others think about their actions, the mature will sit there play their games wherever they damn well feel like and will tell you they're playing Barbie Horse Adventure if they're enjoying it.

Nintendo and Microsoft both don't react to these sorts of antics, it usually just ends up backfiring without them ever needing to release a counter statement.  Tretton: "only kids buy Nintendo handhelds!" *demographic of DS is actually a large portion of the older gamers* "Twenty somethings wouldn' be caught dead with a 3DS!" *the 3DS wows the twenty something demographic at colleges, so much that many are convinced to get one for themselves, not to mention the E3 reaction from the younger guys in the game media*

And I'm surely Sony's taget audience as well...pretty much everyone I know has a Wii and plays it regualrly. 

It isn't fading away, it's the same as the other consoles. So, surely what he's saying is that his console was never relevant in the first place???
