Forums - Nintendo - Why Doesn't Nintendo Make Limited/Collector's Editions?

I've been wondering about this for a while, and I can't think of the answer. I'm sure someone has asked Nintendo, and I'm sure they've replied with a reason, but I haven't seen it.

Why doesn't Nintendo make limited editions of their games? There are hundreds of thousands of crazy fanboys who would pay insane amounts for limited editions of Mario and Zelda games, especially if they came with some iconic piece from their game as extra swag. So why doesn't Nintendo do this?

On my side as a consumer, I would love to have a collector's edition of their big games and get some cool extra stuff with it.

Around the Network

there was ocarina of time and majoras mask collectors edition

I thought Metroid Prime Trilogy was limited in USA and the Mario 25th anniversary pack limited world wide.

As there are also collectors editions of wind waker with Oot and OoT master quest.

Also limited gold editions of Zelda on N64, but yes i could be wrong and Nintendo stupid enough to had never release collector/limited editions...

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

Nintendo does...but like everything else, they do them differently.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

They do some, but not that much.  Basically, they are cheap cash-ins that ask people to pay more for extras that could be sold seperately and aren't worth the additional price.  Nintendo doesn't need that, and they know their games will sell on their own merits regardless.  This is especially important because their games tend to have long legs, and they like it that way, and special editions don't support that strategy.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

Metroid Prime Triology for Wii was collectors

Red Wii was limited time for the US

The Super Mario Brothers Anniversary Collection was supposed to be one run, but the demand was so high It's become multiple runs. Infact we just got our third shipment and here I thought It was only going to be two!

They do make limited/collectors editions, just not many.

It's just that simple.

Back when we useds carts i bought the gold cart of every zelda game out.

Because if they boosted their income like that, then they would run out of space to store their mountains of cash

Technically they do but yes they do it differently to everyone else.. maybe they just dont do stuff like that to be different to everyone else. I for one hate downloadable content and having to buy expansion packs, mostly cause I dont have XBOX live lol; so I dont mind about that so much. Would be awesome if they realeased figures or art books with some of their games though. One can hope for the 25th Zelda Anniversary.

As for the the gold N64 carts you could only get those here, and the grey ones were rare, kinda funny.
