Forums - Gaming - Battlefield 3 wont beat COD and heres why

Battlefield is good dont get me wrong, but EA is throwing alot of money at ads and it wont work. Im not here to argue which game is better, that is really irrelevant. Even if that were scientific fact the thing IMO that makes BF better is the same thing that will ensure that it never beats COD in sales. In BF i find it relys alot more on strategy and teamwork that takes time and a certain level of skill. COD skull f***s all that and says just run around, send out dogs and have a blast. ACCESIBILITY is the name of the game. COD is just easier to get into. Anyone can pick up a controller and after a little while feel like a badass. IVe never played an online FPS where it was so easy to level up, watch the people who love the game, they get so happy when that little bar fills up.  IMHO people are simple creatures they dont want to take the time to go in their and stratigize they just wanna have fun. THe masses dont want to be challenged and COD is perfect for them. Hell i would rank BIoshock 2s multi as more challenging than COD. This is just my opinion i like both, but EA is making a mistake if they think they are going to get the COD people away

EA has something like $200-300 mil going for advertising from what I read, for BF3.

I love shooters in general, I play them all, COD,TF2,DoD,BC2,.... aaaa screw it, if it's a FPS then I play it... and I feel people want more then just COD style gameplay.

BF3 is a different game, it's like the step up from COD, it's moving up to more of a challenge, and I think people will realize that they want something different rather then the same point and shoot type experience.

Or maybe they will like the simple point and shoot arcade style with large point numbers flashed on the screen, who knows.

COD is a stress reliever , and it's really easy to pick up, shoot, then get back to what your doing, and I guess that's what people might be into.

Makes sense but either way Battlefield 3 will still be a better game

@SpartenOmega117  ive never even owned a BF game and i wont dispute that, but its a damn shame that quality doesnt equal sales.

Sales =Quality so I have to disagree.

I agree with you. the problem is that EA tried with Medal of Honor (it obviously didn't work), now they want to try it with BF3.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

No need to disagree, you two are just measuring the term "quality" in completely different ways.

Sarcasm? Black Ops has like twice the sales of BFBC2 and Uncharted 2 but does that mean it has more quality?

I agree with the original post and some others also who are saying that people want more than just point and shoot. Also as an article recently noted that COD has the community aspect. If in a group of people one or two of the popular or influentual kids get/endorse COD, everyone else will just pick it up to play it after school or work. If EA can convince those group leaders to switch games than that one person will lead to atleast 4-5 more sales and more. It is a chain effect so it would be interesting to see how things go. Ofcourse i don't think it would beat COD but if they gain more market share than that will a success.

It means it's fun for many people. When it comes to videogames, that in itself is quality.

I'm not an FPS fan, but people like to hate on COD too much.
