Forums - Gaming - David Cage: Revolutionary Thinking

It's a great article, I suggest everyone who wants the industry to evolve go read it.

I love his style personally, and I really want to see where they can take their games. It's awesome that so many people are paying attention to QD's work as well, and I really hope we start to see more and more emphasis on creating engaging storytelling in games.

Plus the news of a possible E3 reveal of their next game is pretty awesome!

heavy rain was barely an game, an enjoyable expereince but it was more like an full motion choose your adventure book.

so until David Cage can make his next title more of an game then an movie i will pay more attention to his thinking

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

How is it any less of a game than the single player in Call of Duty 4 for example?

This article is really, mmm, how should I say it? I'll go with "enveloping". He's clearly a man with a strong vision of what gaming should expand into next, and I love it. Among all the games that I played in my life, it's the emotionally evolving ones that I revere and thank developers for on a daily basis. My hat is off to him for doing his best to make gaming a medium that rivals film, books etc in the storytelling departament. I know that if the gameplay is done right, these will be the games that I remember and feel inspired by.

David and Sony are a wonderful tandem, I hope Sony pushes his next two games as hard as they did Heavy Rain. It clearly got its just deserves. Do your best, you may make the next Persona 3 FES as far as my scale of worship goes ;)

@Rainbird: Quote stuff from the article man. It's long, and most will probably not read it fully. Kudos on finding it.

In fairness, Cage himself called HR an "interactive movie" as opposed to a game.

On the flip side, just because HR was created the way it was, doesn't make Cage's thinking any less inspirational. I wish more took the risks he did.

Think of it that way: If he succeeds, then people will follow in his wake. It won't be real risk anymore, but hey, we may get good games out of it.

I'm well aware, I just want to know when he thinks it starts being a game and when it isn't.

I'm envious that they have David Cage while we're stuck with Peter Molyneux.

CoD is not a game either. It's an interactive movie. But it's sadly perceived as a game.

lol I find such a stupid comment funny. Lets see.... how about Xenosaga, is that any less of a game due to such a heavy story? or how about ANY JRPG and in some instances WRPG's? They are story heavy and the only thing that changes is perhaps the fact that you have to grind for XP! Take away the story and you have another senseless game of grind or platform rushing like original SMB where you can be done with it in about 30 min (took me about an hour when i was like 9). The choices on Heavy Rain were comparable to the ones you see in DA:O or ME series, are those any less of games? The QTE gameplay is similar to some portions in God of War series, Lords of Arcana, Bayonetta, Darksiders, Dante's Inferno, etc. It's a well adjust console version of a point and click adventure but with more involvement (need I remind you point and click has existed for many years and doesn't stop them from being great games, as you may remember with MIST). Perhaps instead of such ignorance, your post could have been fixed with "IMO". Heavy Rain is a great game with a good story line and many choices that are rewarding, with heavy replayability, which is not the same I can say for most games with only an SP campaign. Apologies for the wall of text.

OT: I cannot wait for their next game, and going on third playthrough of HR, this time with the Move.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Why are you envious of anything? Don't you have a PS3? Besides, not only is that a little odd that you'd take the "console wars" that seriously, but Molyneux has done plenty for the brand he works for.

His only issue is not fulfilling the risks he speaks of. Then again, his ambitions many times get the best of him.

Yes I have a PS3 but I'm Xbox. Molyneux doesn't get that much respect anymore, not as much as he did before.

The console wars are very important.
