Forums - Sony - Sony passes up GTA4 exclusive Content for Rockstar next game.

Who knows? Maybe the next exclusive IP would be amazing like GTA. Its pretty smart on sony's part.

Old news but I think it was a good idea for my part but bad business decision. I get GTA plus a new exclusive IP while Sony loses some of its sales it could've gotton on its PS3.

If the next game is a new ip (as you suggested) I would say that it is an awful move ...

With some very noteworthy exceptions, most third party games do not tend to get to their maximum sales potential until the second or third installment; this means that it is likely that more people would buy an XBox 360 to play the exclusive content in GTA than will buy a PS3 to play LA Noire.

Sony knows more about what is going on than any of us. I have to expect that this new game is going to take the place of what would be the next GTA. If that is the case We probably won't see another GTA until sometime around 2012. IMO this would be a smart part on Rockstars side. GTA sells like crazy, and it is better that they take some lengthy breaks between games, than to keep pumping them out every 2 years.

btw LA is not the game Sony and Rockstar made the deal for. It could end up being exclusive, but they still have somthing else up their sleve.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I dont think so. I think your average consumer will walk into the games shop, see that both the PS3 and the 360 have GTAIV, and then notice that the PS3 also has an exclusive by the same company who made GTAIV.

Personally I'm very happy, I'd much rather have a new IP then some bonus content.

Ya I dont think LA Noir is the exclusive that they are talking about because Sony is publishing the game if im correct. Plus this may be a smart move because if this new IP becomes big like GTA then once GTA5 is coming that will once again be exclusive to the PS3 for atleast 9 months.

@roadkillers

Imagine

L.A Noire only on the ps3, and GTA 5 only on ps3 on the same year. When will this be 2010?

I would have agreed with you on that before the PSP and PS3 launched.  Exclusive original IPs haven't exactly been lighting up the PS3 sales charts thus far.

I'd like to see a source for this. As it stands, we could potentially interpret this as "Sony gave up the exclusive GTA4 content for a GTA5 exclusive." And that, though I need not say it, would be a damn good thing for Sony. I'd make that deal any day.

You do not have the right to never be offended.
