Forums - Nintendo - Lifetime Sales Expectations for Nintendogs/cats

I'm wondering what people's expectations are for the lifetime sales of Nintendogs + cats. Considering how huge the original game was, I was expecting the sequel to open a little better on 3DS. I know the game is about continued sales and not a massive opening, and that it can't sell that much yet, because the 3DS has a very small install base. Still, I think the early signs for the game are not that positive. I was initially expecting the game to sell ~50% of the original game, so 12-13 million. Now I'm think it will be more like 7-8 million, which is obviously still a big success, but only a fraction of the original.

So what does everyone else think? Also, if you think Nintendogs and cats will sell significantly less than the original game, do you think that is a bad sign for follow ups to other big DS games, such as Mario Kart 3DS or a new Brain Age game?

Too hard to call since we don't know if Nintendo will bundle it in the future. Without bundling I'd say 5-7 million.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Given these sales, EMEAA is key as over half of the games sales come from that region:

Nintendo, Sim
9.71 1.93 12.42 24.06

Here, in the U.K Nintendogs was a massive success.  I only know a handful of people who don't own a copy (and consider that I'm an 18 year old male, not exactly the target audience).  Nintendogs was also bundled for a long time with the original DS.  It also saw heavy advertising, the only time I've seen Nintendo actually sponsor a TV show with one of their games was Nintendogs sponsoring of 'It's me or the dog' on Channel 4.

If Nintendo was it to sell anywhere near as much as the DS original, the above needs to be replicated.

I'm guessing 8 million.

I think it will only pick up once the System is 3-4 years Old.

This system is not priced to sell Cats and Dogs games.

Couldn`t come up with a number but i believe it will be really less than DS`s games. It`s no longer a novelty and there a lot of animal games have come out in 5/6 years. Don`t know if people aren`t a bit tired of the genre.

I'd say that, at this point, the absolute low end is 10m and high end undetermined, but under 30m, most likely. 10m for this franchise is pretty much a given as 3DS is sure to hit 75m eventually, but we have little idea of what 3DS's LT sales will be or what kind of attach rate Nintendogs Cats will keep over time.

Without bundles I'd go with around 10-12m lifetime.
