Sony's PlayStation 3 may be slumping in the States, but sales of the console are surging around the world. A new report indicates that the PS3 has passed Micrsoft's Xbox 360 in global sales, opening up a 1 million unit lead.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, the PlayStation 3 has now surpassed the 43.4 million marker worldwide, putting it ahead of the Xbox 360 (42.9 million) for the first time.
