Either way, screw everything, I am going to hop on the boat will all those who support SONY in this fight.

Please win SONY. I love PSN and PS3, I love them so much that I don't care if I get some consumer rights torn away from me. I know that this kind of ruling could effect not only my PS3 but my Wii, Smartphone, etc... but I DON'T CARE! I only care that when I play Killzone 3 I don't have cheaters in my game!

Yeah, I hope Sony loses. Video games aren't more important than my rights.

Oh yeah, I also hope Anon makes PSN Plus free. I could use the extra $17 in my pocket since I would only be buying it to transfer a few copy protected game saves.

I could also go for some free CastleCrashers on PSN.

your naivety and ignorance is astounding, yeah you fucking hope they won't go that far is more like it

eh, really I couldn't care either way. I expect them to just hack the PSN, drop prices, and maybe block the admins forcing the network division to have to hack their own service to change things back.

It will be an epic knockout punch either way. Just one will be a sucker punch that leads to the knockout, and the other will be a brutal punch straight to the nose with brass knuckles.

i'm quickly learning you are a very very scary person.  the posts i've seen you make lately really scare the hell out of me.

I believe and support certain things, Freedom of Information, Civil Rights, and Freedom of Property are three. Sony is violating all three and should be stopped. And the justice system really can't be trusted as its easily bought out and unjust. Its the people who need to stand up for their rights.

NOTE:  I Don't know if this has been brought to attention before, but as yet another form of censorship, Sony's Blue ray player in the PS3 now mutes the audio of any burned CD/DVD, meaning when you watch a movie... about  20 mins in, the audio will Mute and a message will come up saying it has  been muted due to copyright laws.

  5. This ties in to operation Payback and I think it should be brought to attention. May help get people in the hive.

Is that true? If I burn a home video onto a DVD and play it on the PS3 the audio will cut out after 20 minutes? When did this happen?

Same if I burn legally purchased songs from iTunes onto a CD?

Wild.

Anyways, not sure if everyone has read what is in the link.

Is this a good or bad response towards the hackers? I think Sony would be better off apologising for taking off Other OS and hope the hackers feel sorry for them. Anon is to be taken seriously despite what people think. Sony is in for a very big loss. Judging by Anon's track record they always do what they set out to do.

You dont get anywhere by trying to appease terrorists.

well if Sony think they can do better than a security company good luck to them. all this could have been prevented if they had just left Linux on the PS3. of course they knew they were going to piss off the hackers that paid $600 to only learn that sony take off the feature. also geohot had nothing to do with piracy or cheats on games. all he did was enable homebrew to run to all the people that felt betrayed by sony after they spent $600. piracy and cheats was on PS3 long before geohot hacked it.

And why did they remove it in the first place? Because Mister Hotz used the feature to hack the PS3, and made it public.

Actually court documents revealed that it was removed for cost reasons, not piracy. Well, this is what the argument is and to be honest they make a good point.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/295597/news/ps3-other-os-removed-to-cut-costs-not-piracy-lawsuit/

well, that is what they clain, rather them fact.

but fact is sony removed it AFTER mister Hotz boasted about how he used the feature to get into the PS3.

now i would call that a good reason for security concerns.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

those cheap hackers are so bad.. They could just wait for their games to hit the bargain bins ;)

no, not at all. Sony advertised and allowed the PS3 to be hacked and used for development work with the CELL early on. Sony just changed their minds for no freaking reason at all. Hotz wasn't even focusing on the PS3 till after OtherOS was removed.

"In the end of 2009, Hotz announced his efforts to hack the Sony PlayStation 3, a console widely regarded as being the only fully locked and secure system of the seventh generation era. Hotz opened a blog to document his progress, and five weeks later, on January 22, 2010, he announced that he had successfully hacked the machine by enabling himself read and write access to the machine's system memory and having hypervisor level access to the machine's processor."

lol, this guy is in dire need of a therapist.

no, seriously you have no idea what a threat Anonymous really is. They gave the church of scientology a massive black eye, has basically destroyed the lives of the people holding Sgt. Manning captive over the whole wikileaks leaks, and has destroyed a security company. As well as shut down several government websites, among other things. You do not take a threat from them lightly or else they will destroy you.

If good sized portion of Anon is seriously going to target Sony, be very prepared for the PSN to be annihilated (or at least be taken offline for at least a week or two if its not hacked and crippled) as well as probably most of the executives within Sony to have all their personal information Doxed. It wouldn't destroy Sony, but Anon will severely damage them if this is true.

Right, and we suffer along with that.  Why is that a good thing?

You seem to always put them up on a pedastal when they really have no reason what-so-ever t obe.  They have no one's best interest in mind other than their own.

Actually, all their major crusades have helped massively. They made it so PayPal would allow donations to wikileaks, they shut Scientology up, destroyed a security company that was planning on revealing who was apart of the cyber war that is still brewing, hurt governments that stood against freedom of information. Yes they have done some questionable things too. But some good does come from what they do.

Anonymous is a very unique group, as they are actually 100% leaderless. It is basically a coin with a heads and tails side, its a matter which side the coin lands on today that matters which side anonymous will take today. There is also the fact within anonymous there are splinter groups that also flip their own coins. It actually a very good example that the world could work very effectively without true leaders. And when the collective gets together and they decided on what they are going to do it gets done.

And really, Sony suffering for what they are doing would be a fantastic thing. They deserve it. It would definitely put them in their place. And like Machina said, they are more likely to reprice everything in the PS Store to zero or 1cent than bring down the network. Network crashing is normally their last resort (except under certain circumstances). And the easiest way to stop a company in their tracks is to destroy their management teams.

and what exactly is this terrible and atrocious thing sony has done, except for using every legal means avaliable to protect their network and preventing piracy?

tell me who exactly is this "Sony" person who needs to be brought down to their knees?

lets just assume anonymous is successful! they completely destroy PSN. they release every code so everyone can play "backups" they set all the prices on PSN to zero so everyone can enjoy free games! and in the end the sony network division just goes out of business, that would be great, for everyone wouldn't it? THEY deserve this, right?

do you actually think anyone else but the consumers and the workers at sony will be hurt by this?

Anonymous wouldn't go that far. They would just make Sony regret decisions. Apply enough hurt, decisions quickly change.

your naivety and ignorance is astounding, yeah you fucking hope they won't go that far is more like it

of course you couldn't care, and that's a problem

It's cinavia, its a watermark that's encoded in the audio stream, a number of films contain it which won't allow cinavia enabled machines to play it if the audio & video don't correctly match, it doesn't affect home video what so ever, unless you're recording a cinavia film with a cam.

I have a number of films I've downloaded with cinavia, its a pain in the arse but I can't go around blaming film studios for using this protection, fair play to them tbh.

Okay I feel some people need help knowing what a hacker is and what context GeoHot is in, what group Pirates are in, and what group Anon is in...

GeoHot is apart of the Hacker (hobbyist) group, he hacks commercial products to make them open, no he does NOT make piracy programs for these devices, there is a reason he's so famous before this whole PS3 hacking fiasco and theres a reason he's never been brought to trail before now... because there is no law against making a product open to be modified, it's your property you can do what you want with it.

Anon fit in the first two definitions, they support free information on being able to modify their own products, this also does NOT mean piracy, this means the ability to own a product and put your own homebrew applications on it, homebrew is not pirated software as it is made by everyday people and not corporations.

Pirates, what they are are exactly what their name implies, they're using a product they didn't pay for and downloaded from shady sites online, 90% of these people are NOT hackers, they wouldn't know the first thing about hacking, they simply sit there and wait for the other 10% that make programs for pirating software to release their info and follow guides online, they wouldn't know the first thing about breaking into a website nor breaking into a high security system, SEE Gamecube never had a working emulator the entire time Gamecube was out and PS3 was the most secure system against anyone breaking in until it caught the attention of real hackers (Media hacker/hobbyist) that Sony took out apart of the system people paid good money to have.
