Forums - Nintendo - I'm not buying this 3D thing

So Nintendo may have a chance at wining over 3rd party publishers and your saying..

I wont support you Nintendo for trying to gain 3rd party support?

No.  I'm saying that I'm not going to run out and buy a 3DS to kiss the butt of the 3rd parties that have treated me, a Nintendo only home console owner, as a 3rd rate customer.  If they support the next home console, I'll be on board.

I also explained why the 3DS isn't for me.  I'm not going to shell out my hard earned money for a bunch of really old games that have 3D slapped on them.  If this is great 3rd party support, then I don't want it.  I am confused as to what good 3rd party support is though, because as I have been told, I don't even know what a good 3rd party game is.

Man, you are full of it. You are mad at the 3DS, because it's getting the third party support that the Wii could only dream of. Now you are trying to look for all sorts of excuses to justify that you are still playing the Wii with arguments like you have sex and therefore not the time for a 3DS. Get real, man. You can either be stubborn and keep playing your Wii games that came out years ago or you can purchase a shiny new 3DS that will introduce you to the magnificient world of 3D gaming.

Yeah.  I could pay for and play Ocarina of Time again and pretend that it wasn't supposedly 3D the first time.  Sorry I don't want to purchase this overpriced piece of equipment when I could make the down payment on a house instead.  I'll get all of the Shiny Golds in DKC Returns that you have given up on while you're flying around Wuhu Island.  I did that on Wii Sports Resort ages ago.

I feel like you're purposefully missing the point. The 3DS can create environments in 3D, just like those good ole days. Notice that the word 3D is used a little bit differently now as actual depth is involved. It's hard to explain really because you have to see it to believe it. One day, go try out  a 3DS and you might understand what the "new" 3D is all about. I personally hate 3D in this manner, but it isn't annoying on the 3DS because it can be adjusted. However, I use it without the 3D most of the time. I turn it on and off during game to see what it looks like in 3D and back off to the normal screen. Both ways are really good and I'm glad that Ninty doesn't force you to keep the 3D mode on. Thankfully.

According to viper1 (from an older thread), some developers are working on games that require you to have the 3D on.

The use of 3D in anything is, was, and always will be a gimmick.  I can't see 3D.  I don't want to see 3D.  If it didn't take so much time and proofreading you would never ever see me make a post with either the number 3 or the letter D in it again.  This gimmick is a way to get a sucker to pay more money to see a movie.  It is also a way to get a remake of Pocahontas to become the top grossing film of all time, but that's neither here nor there.  But I am not here to talk about this overutilized trickery's usage in cinema.  I'm speaking of the latest gaming system to claim to be 3D.  I am speaking of the 3DS.

People have asked me if I plan on buying the latest Nintendo handheld.  My answer is nuh-uh.  I will not buy it and it's not just because of Nintendo's reliance on a tired gimmick.

First off, for those of you who don't know me well, I am a massive Wii fan.  Unless you have been living under a rock, I am sure that you are aware that the Wii's sales have been dipping.  I will not buy a 3DS because I would start buying games for it instead of the Wii and this would take away from the Wii's software sales.  This might not sound like much but it is.  Look at my collection if you don't believe me.  I still need to add like 20 more games.

The 3DS is supposed to have awesome 3rd party support.  To hell with that.  If I were to support them I'd be selling out.  I like supporting systems with little to no 3rd party support.  That's why I am such am big Wii and N64 fan.  I'd rather buy five Nintendo games than support developers that didn't give a diddly squat about Nintendo until the 3DS.  Super Street Fighter IV would've been great for Nintendo fans a year ago, Capcom.

Speaking of the N64, wasn't it supposed to have 3D graphics?  Well...  wasn't it?  If not, it looks like I was ripped off.  Let me guess, this is a better form of 3D and 15 years from now Nintendo will show off an even better form of 3D and act like this 3D didn't exist.  Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  I won't be fooled again.

Also, I'm sick of getting the same crap.  I mean really... I already own the best game that will be released on the system or will there be a better game than Ocarina of Time on it?  I highly doubt it.  There's also Rayman 3D coming out for the system which is actually a 3D enhanced version of Rayman 2: The Great Escape that came out in 2000 for the Dreamcast and Splinter Cell 3D which is just a fancy name for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory which came out in 2005.  Don't try to crap on me in my backyard and tell me that it's a California mudslide.  I don't live in California.

There also just isn't enough time in the day.  Between working, gaming on the Wii, and having sex I barely have enough time to eat, shower and sleep.  How in the world would I have time for the 3DS?  The answer is that I wouldn't.  You guys should follow suit.  Instead of paying money to watch jiggling boobs in Dead Or Alive: Dimensions, spend that money going to a strip club if you don't have a girl of your own.

Me buying this handheld would also be a betrayal to the magnificent 2D renaissance that is going on.  Awesome platformers like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and Wario Land: Shake it will give way to games like Super Monkey Ball : Could it possibly be worse than that Step and Roll Game? 3D and several other lets make a barren game with bitchin' looking 3D environments games.  Thank you no.  I am not selling out.

In conclusion, if I want to see a beautiful 3D environment, I'll step outside.  I play games to escape from reality and not to be like reality.  Am I the only one that feels this way?

Wow i'm surprised that a guy that can write a whole article on why hes not buying a 3DS doesn't even take the time to see one for himself. Really?.....are you really going to write "i heard a rumor" and not take the time to try it before you start going on about it. Here in Vancouver they had a big Nintendo event so people could try it....and it is amazing.

It's sad to see people calling Nintendo stuff gimmick. DS gimmick, Wii gimmick, 3DS gimmick i guess thats the new work for "amazing system that sells millions of units" But of course no one will call the NGP a gimmick, because it has a track pad on the bottom, it allows you to tickle your portable.

It sounds like you are stuck in Super Nintendo days, you seem as though you don't want video games to advance through the years. Without ideas and without someone wanting to be different everything stays the same....thats boring.

But anyway have fun with your Wii, i have fun with my Wii too. But me and over 100 million people will also be enjoying the next generation of gaming. I am also disapointed to see you write "you guys should follow suit" are you so bitter against the 3DS ...(the same 3DS you have never tried)... that your trying to stop other people from buying it too? Pretty sad dude. Unlike you there a millions of people out there that may want to expand their horizons.

Oh and by the way, is bringing up your sexual escapades, and strippers really appropriate for a gaming community? It's a fact that people who tell stories about sex, and the people who feel the need to share their sexual experiences are the people that in fact don't have sex, or have very little of it. I am studying Psychology......so don't deny. If you were to step into my office and tell me all the stuff you wrote...i would hand back your $300 and tell you it all adds up to jealousy.

Isn't it funny how the people who say 3D is a pointless waste of time and "just dont like it", are the ones who CANT SEE it. No wonder you don't like it, to you it's just a fuzzy picture that cost you twice as much.

Sorry, but for those who can enjoy it, 3D is fun. Yes, it isn't really necessary. But, seriously, gaming, TV, films...they arent necessary. We like them because we enjoy them. And many people enjoy 3D, too.

...Especially those who can, er, see it.

No, some of us can see it, and still say it's pointless.

I don't give a crap about 3D. I'm fine with it in movies because I know they're not working in the 3D side instead of "optimizing" it, like PC games. I couldn't care less if a game supports NVIDIA 3D Vision when it's fucking buggy and filled with blurry textures. with the 3DS it's a different story, but it's not something that attracts me too.

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

The only thing that worries me is that developers will overexagerate with 3D while ignoring gameplay just like they did with the old 3D, HD and Wii new controls. So it looks like it's gonna take a few years until the technology gets old and people are done with the wow factor.

However this was bound to be the next big thing (about which I sadly can't care less) so I think Nintendo were really smart to be the first ones doing it. Just like the did with the motion controls.

Kid Icarus.

that's a nostalgia fix you won't get without the 3DS.

errr do you even own 3DVision? you know there's a knob on the emiter to increase/decrease the 3D... and too high a setting isn't viewable.
