Exactly, no integrated friends, no voice chat (Even PS3 has that), and playing with non-friends is up to each dev. That's all I was saying.

| DMeisterJ said: @ Kasz216 Well, when playing with the Wii, your pulse affects your aim ever so slightly, and with analog sticks, they aren't as sensetive as the Wii-mote. So I could see that argument. Also, Why play the 'gimped' way, and not with a real mouse/keyboard? |

Okay guys, lets go through and actually lay this out straight rather than constantly switching back and forth between different points in order to maintain one side or other of the argument.
I already did a thread about if the Wii be able to handle graphically the requirements of Portal, and from what responses I got, it seemed technically feasible and quite reasonable provided the lower settings were used.
Now with the technical issues set aside, we can delve into the actual gameplay and sales points.
Development costs - obviously this thing was ported to 360 and PS3, there's no reason not to port it to Wii. Provided the PC control scheme was used as teh base, it really shouldn't be that difficult to substitute mouse location with wiimote pointer location.
Internet features - We all know Nintendo doesn't currently have the largest online presence. that doesn't mean it's not there. Obviously friend codes aren't going to be the best thing for supporting TF2's gameplay style, but the use of friend codes have been getting more and more relaxed with time.
Control style - this is where the Wii shines. I've already seen mention that the Dual analogs suck for FPS. This is the whole reason why I don't play FPS.
On the other side of teh thing, you have keyboard and mouse being touted as the be all and end all of FPS, but really, I don't consider it terribly immersive to move a mouse around on the screen to aim, nor comfortable to have to balance my fingers over the required keys on the keyboard for all the rest of my controls, while trying not to lose my place on the keyboard and press totally random buttons in the middle of a battle.
Whether you believe it or not, the Wiimote w/nunchuck is a truly nice balance between these two control styles. Primary buttons are right at your fingertips, and aim is all done with the Wiimote, which is actually pointed at the screen. Even if you aren't getting straight 1 to 1 aim on the wiimote, you're still at least aiming in the direction of the screen.
Profit - Even if the game doesn't sell well on the Wii, it's still highly likely that port costs will easily be recouped.
Success - While Wii's growth may be largely attributed to casual gamers, there is still a steady following of more hardcore gamers who are looking for GOOD games of various genres. Orange box could easily bring this to the table. there may not be a huge first week sales burst, but it is quite likely that it will maintain steady sales throughout its lifetime. Along with this, as Wii gains more properly done games, more people who like those games will begin moving to the system.
Problems - Along with friend codes, there is one other issue that Wii currently has, and that is VOIP. No microphone and only limited keyboard support are going to make it nearly impossible to communicate in any version of this game that is released. If anyone wants a reason why TF2 isn't going to go to the Wii, it's this reason. However, Half Life and Portal, being singal player games won't need this communication and would likely do quite well.

I'm assuming you meant "liar" right? I hope so, I have no idea what Lair has to do with this. But I still don't understand your post. Please repost or at lease edit your grammar. |
you can say you have no bias?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
@ Kasz216
Well, I can't keep my hand pointing at the screen for a long time, so I'll rest it on my leg, and I'm guessing that it's my pulse that keeps my hand moving the tiniest bit. Or maybe I have a nerve problem? Who knows. All the more reason for me to play dual-analog
mayby the reason is that 3rd party developers games are so bad, that nintendo's games beat them all, so 3rd party games do not produce so many games on wii!!!
most 3rd party games fail on wii.....that's what i'm saying mayby it will happen at some time (why not???)

Your pulse effects your aim? News to me. Still, if cross platform play happened. (Or even dual controls on the Wii with gamecube controls.) i'd put all my money on team wii-mote to school almost as hard as team Keyboard would. Also to answer your question, why play dual analog over Mouse and Keyboard then? Why do they even make FPS on consoles when they are better in every way on computers? Though honestly, i'd say, because holding a wiimote it a lot more like holding a gun then holding a mouse is. |
It's not actually his pulse, it's his breathing that affects his aim, as well as the adrenaline affecting the muscles in his arm. But they're all connected, so it's easy to mistake the source of the issue. This usually means that the person in question is just a teensy bit out of shape. This isn't an issue when you're using a mouse because you can rest your arm and wrist on the table, and use just your fingers and wrist to move the mouse. On top of this, you don't LIFT the mouse at all, you only slide it over the surface of the table, which means that basic friction of the mouse on the table is going to help steady the pointer location.
the reason why there are console FPS is because, as I've already stated, people don't like having to hover their fingers over teh numerous keys and have a chance of accidentally moving their hand a bit to the side and end up pressing totally random buttons. that's the reason I prefer the Wiimote nunchuck to Keyboard Mouse.
