Okay guys, lets go through and actually lay this out straight rather than constantly switching back and forth between different points in order to maintain one side or other of the argument.
I already did a thread about if the Wii be able to handle graphically the requirements of Portal, and from what responses I got, it seemed technically feasible and quite reasonable provided the lower settings were used.
Now with the technical issues set aside, we can delve into the actual gameplay and sales points.
Development costs - obviously this thing was ported to 360 and PS3, there's no reason not to port it to Wii. Provided the PC control scheme was used as teh base, it really shouldn't be that difficult to substitute mouse location with wiimote pointer location.
Internet features - We all know Nintendo doesn't currently have the largest online presence. that doesn't mean it's not there. Obviously friend codes aren't going to be the best thing for supporting TF2's gameplay style, but the use of friend codes have been getting more and more relaxed with time.
Control style - this is where the Wii shines. I've already seen mention that the Dual analogs suck for FPS. This is the whole reason why I don't play FPS.
On the other side of teh thing, you have keyboard and mouse being touted as the be all and end all of FPS, but really, I don't consider it terribly immersive to move a mouse around on the screen to aim, nor comfortable to have to balance my fingers over the required keys on the keyboard for all the rest of my controls, while trying not to lose my place on the keyboard and press totally random buttons in the middle of a battle.
Whether you believe it or not, the Wiimote w/nunchuck is a truly nice balance between these two control styles. Primary buttons are right at your fingertips, and aim is all done with the Wiimote, which is actually pointed at the screen. Even if you aren't getting straight 1 to 1 aim on the wiimote, you're still at least aiming in the direction of the screen.
Profit - Even if the game doesn't sell well on the Wii, it's still highly likely that port costs will easily be recouped.
Success - While Wii's growth may be largely attributed to casual gamers, there is still a steady following of more hardcore gamers who are looking for GOOD games of various genres. Orange box could easily bring this to the table. there may not be a huge first week sales burst, but it is quite likely that it will maintain steady sales throughout its lifetime. Along with this, as Wii gains more properly done games, more people who like those games will begin moving to the system.
Problems - Along with friend codes, there is one other issue that Wii currently has, and that is VOIP. No microphone and only limited keyboard support are going to make it nearly impossible to communicate in any version of this game that is released. If anyone wants a reason why TF2 isn't going to go to the Wii, it's this reason. However, Half Life and Portal, being singal player games won't need this communication and would likely do quite well.
