Forums - Gaming - Dreamcast Vs. Gamecube Vs. Playstation 2 Vs. Xbox

this is a tough one.

PS2 had DDR and ITG and kingdom Hearts

Gamecube had Smash Bros.

PS2 had a bunch of really good games, but nothing can really top Smash Bros Melee, that was just downright epic.

I'm gonna have to go with PS2, simply because the Wii can do anything that the Gamecube can do, so if I had skipped the gamecube and went straight to Wii, I would still have been abl to get awesome Smash Bros Melee goodness.

Seppukuties is like LBP Lite, on crack. Play it already!

Currently wrapped up in: Half Life, Portal, and User Created Source Mods
Games I want: (Wii)Mario Kart, Okami, Bully, Conduit,  No More Heroes 2 (GC) Eternal Darkness, Killer7, (PS2) Ico, God of War1&2, Legacy of Kain: SR2&Defiance

My Prediction: Wii will be achieve 48% market share by the end of 2008, and will achieve 50% by the end of june of 09. Prediction Failed.

Last gen was sorta meh...PC gaming truly shined a lot from 1999-2006, and was far better then console gaming IMO (this gen console gaming seems to be much better so far).

Anyway...

1. PS2....the game selection is simply awesome. It had by far the best game selection. (although IMO not as good as people say) It was also pushed the most and had the second best controller.

2. Dreamcast...it had quite a few good games and was very innovative. Shame it died :(

3. GameCube....with little to no third party support and some of the worst first party games ever made by Nintendo. On the plus side, the few great games it did have were amazing, and it had the best controller, as well as the one single best game made last gen

4. Xbox....yeah...big ugly controller, VERY few games, huge system, I don't like Halo and pretty much a bust of a console, terrible, I can't really say there was a single exclusive game I truly enjoyed

PS2 > DC > GCN > Xbox

Note: I don't own an DC, but my cousin does and I played it a lot, I also don't own an Xbox, but my other cousin does and I also played it quite a bit. I didn't have a PS2 for a while but my DC owning cousin did :O he finally gave it me this year.

Are you kidding? Last gen was awesome. Online with XBOX, awesome 1st party games on the GC, and huge game variety on the PS2 made the PC pale in comparison, it's now that the PC is getting big exclusives and has better games overall.

Wait what?

Xbox online was lousy and you had to pay for something that was worse then what you could get on PC for free in 1998.

Their were a few very good first party games on the GCN but overall they were horrible. (super mario sunshine anyone? worst mario platformer?)

And I still don't find the PS2 game variety as good as they said....

PC gaming was where it was at from 1998-2006, and it was pretty much all of the gaming I did.

Now, PC gaming is sadly dying again. Most of the games are just Xbox 360 ports and there are very few actually good games, the only ones I'm looking forward to are Half-Life 2: Episode 3, Portal 2 and Spore.

You're so crazy :P

P.S. 16 bit generation > this generation > last generation > 8 bit generation > 32/64 bit generation

I think you're confused, PC was shining in 1998-2001 , but in 2002 it started declining and declining so that 2005-2007 were the worst years of PC gaming in terms of titles, even though we still got some amazing exclusives (Company of Heroes, WoW, World in Conflict, Witcher, etc...)

But, due to more affordable modern PC's and rise of downloadable services, the PC gaming is being risen right now and is looking to outperform any console in 2008. There are over 10 AAA PC exclusives coming out 2008, and the PC will most likely outshine the consoles again:

- The most amount of AAA exclusives

- The most amount of Multiplatform games

- PC is snatching several single-console games from PS3 (Heavy Rain, Agent, etc..), 360 (Alan Wake, Fable 2, etc..) and Wii (Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, casual games, etc...)

- Rise of old PC franchises (Starcraft, Jagged Alliance, Disciples, Fallout, etc...)

- Best versions of games.

2008 is PC year.

Wait, you think it started to decline in 2002? Uh what? There were so many good PC games between 2002 and 2006...

2007 was a horrible year for PC gaming btw...

2008 looks only okay for the PC......to be honest Spore is the only thing that looks amazing to me.

Sure, there were some great games between 2002 and 2006, but PC gaming was still declining and 2002-06 were nowhere near the supremacy of the older days and it felt like the PC couldn't match the consoles in terms of quality games.

As for 2008, it's more than just 'OK'. There are several old PC franchises that are reviving next year and also the adventure genre is rising with games like Sam & Max season 2, Gray Matter and A vampyre story. Also the other points I mentioned in my previous post.

I only had GC; I used to think that you could only have 1 console (i was 9 & took my parents litterally)

1. Playstation 2 - Had way too many AAA titles to discount it as the #1 console of last gen

2. GameCube - Though it didn't have nearly as many great games as the PS2, it had the best games of last generation in Metroid Prime, Windwaker, RE4, etc

3. Dreamcast - It had a good run, had a number of great titles such as Soul Calibur and Shenmue.

4. Xbox - Didn't have too many great games in my opinion. I'll acknowledge Halo 1 and 2 as great games, but other than that, there's Fable (which I found to be disappointing), Ninja Gaiden Black (great), KOTOR (good but with several technical flaws).

I say PS2 even though I only owned a GC.

Than why do you own a Gamecube, and not a Playstation 2?
