Forums - Gaming - Dreamcast Vs. Gamecube Vs. Playstation 2 Vs. Xbox

1. DC - a system purely for gamers. Perhaps the last system that was only interested in gamers.

2. Xbox - practically every multi-platform game was superior on the Xbox. It had plenty of enjoyable console exclusives including the generations best RPG KOTOR.

3. PS2 - had a massive lineup of games. Perhaps I'm a little biased against it for killing the DC but we can all be petty like that.

4. GC - so few games, and little third party support. If you were not a huge fan of Nintendo's IPs then there was no point at all purchasing this system.

The PS2 was(and still is) my favorite as it had many games of all sorts. action/adventure, platformers, fighting games, shooters, jrpgs, shmups, racing/driving sims, offstyle racers.

The Dreamcast comes in second with its large catalogue of shmups(Ikaruga, Border Down, Zero Gunner 2, Psyvariar 2: The Will To Fabricate, Mars Matrix, Giga Wing, Giga Wing 2, Gunbird 2, TriZeal, Chaos Field, Radilgy, Trigger Heart Exelica, Karous, Bang-Ai-Oh, Shikigami No Shiro, Shikigami No Shiro 2) and its wondrous ports of arcade fighting games (Soul Calibur, Street Fighter III: Third Striker, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2) .

The Gamecube is in a close third due to Nintendo's excellent first-party titles(Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Starfox Assault, Paper Mario: TTYD, Super Mario Strikers, LOZ: TP).

As for the Xbox, well, let's just say that the Saturn is more appealing to me. I'm sure that the Xbox had some great games..........I can't think of any off hand, but I'm sure there must have been something....

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Never had a DC or Xbox so won't comment on those.

GC the best for me, best multiplayer in SSBM, best 3rd party exclusive in RE4, best racer in F Zero...

PS2 had some great games but the load times were soooo slow.

i liked ps2 the most because of its great games and liked dreamcast the least because it died to fast,it wasnt a great investmont

I probably played the GC most out of these, so my vote would probably have to go there. The large amount of great four-player games was really fantastic. Beach Spikers FTW!

Smilebit's exclusive support of the Xbox (JSRF, Gunvalkyrie, PDO) pretty much forced me to buy one (curse them!). Still, stuff like the Otogi, Oddworld, and Halo games, Fable, Riddick, Kingdom Under Fire, Ninja Gaiden, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, KOTOR, and superior versions of most multiplatform titles (especially Psychonauts) made it worthwhile.

PS2 has a vast and varied library, but the lack of four controller ports and the fact that most of my PS2 games are single-player only seemed to relegate it to second-place status.

Dreamcast was awesome, for single- and four-player, but didn't last long enough to maintain a continued impression.

EDIT: Speaking of Dreamcast, The Typing of the Dead is one of the greatest console games ever created, and one of the few titles I would love to see loads of sequels, spin-offs, and/or add-ons to.

You know that you could buy a 4 controller adapter ... am I the only person whom actually did that ?

@hunter_alien:

What is the point of a multitap if I don't own any four-player games?

The very fact that Sony refused to include four controller ports set a precedent that four-player split-screen support would not be a priority for developers.

@hunter
yes you could do that but barely any games supported that
