Forums - Nintendo - Ubi does what Epic don't: Unreal Engine on the 3DS

Its most likely Unreal Engine 2.5 because that is what Splinter Cell was run on as mentioned above. Epic isn't going to waste their time unless they can use their new features in Unreal engine 3.5 and for anyone to think that Epic doesn't know how to code their own engine is idiotic. They do Unreal Engine twice as good as anyone else. No game using Unreal Engine will come close to Gears 3. Mass Effect 3 may be the only one in the ballpark.

Honestly I don't think Unreal3.5 would run on 3DS if Unreal3 even could. Epic sells their engines and the games they create are used for dual purposes, #1. Make income for Epic, #2. Cause other developers to want to use their engine. Epic isn't going to release anything on any console that doesn't demo their latest technology to gamers and developers.

Epic wants developers to use their latest stuff and as such will always use their latest engine. Though I'm holding my breath for a NGP title. NGP could handle Unreal3.5 but will Epic make a game for it?

Epic remind me of Infinity Ward's "we don't hate Nintendo, it's simply that Modern Warfare can't be done on the Wii" excuse,  where later, surprise surprise, Treyarch managed very nicely.

The diffrence is, Epic does appear to hate Nintendo. IW at least tries to treat the systems equally.

Outclassed by Ubisoft. For shame, Epic. For shame.

Please explain. Just because they've ported an old version of the Unreal Engine doesn't mean they're somehow better than Epic. Even the Wii can run that version and does with some games, so there's nothing exceptional about it.

i think epics point was that you cant get good games running on the unreal engine on 3ds.

3ds could probably handle any engine but whats the point if there isnt enough resources left for the actual content which makes the game?

probably good for things like platformers but i cant imagine it doing anything near the level of unreal tournament.

Where did you get that from? I don't recall any game IW made for the Wii (?) it's Activision that made the decision to have MW and MW2 get a Wii version and Treyarch (not IW) that did the Wii version, after IW said the COD4 engine couldn't be ported to the Wii..

To all those explaining/justifying Epic's side of things, while it is always possible you are correct, all I can say is that the same explanations were given at the time when IW said that MW couldn't be done on the Wii.

We only want an instagib UTGOTY for the 3DS.

That's exactly my point. Even though it doesn't take any real programming skills whatsoever, Ubisoft did what Epic didn't want to do.

But actually, the real shameful thing is that Epic made up some silly excuses why they wouldn't port their Unreal Engine to the Wii and the 3DS while at the same time they rushed out to get it [the actual Unreal Engine 3] to work on iOS. Epic could have just said "We really don't like Nintendo." and that would have been fine, because it's wellknown. Instead they hide behind their lame excuses, pretending that all gamers are gullible enough to eat them up.

I think you're still confused about this. What Ubisoft ported is the Unreal Engine 2, which supports last-gen consoles (PS2, Xbox, GC, Wii). Epic was obviously talking about is the Unreal Engine 3, which runs on current-gen consoles and smartphones.

But that's the question...is this UE3 or UE2.5?  The article doesn't say.

Where does it say that exactly? I am going to counter with the same then. Actually they ported the 3.5 engine. It runs flawlessly as well with little work.
