Forums - Gaming - Crysis 2 Beats Halo At Its Own Game?

twesterm said:

I admit I only skimmed the article but from what I skimmed it talked about since Crysis 2 and Halo both focus on a super powered soldier with a fancy suit that fights aliens they're somehow really close?

Right.  Super Mario Bros. and Little Big Planet are both platformers.  Light Big Planet and Half-Life 2 both focus on physics gameplay.  Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead were both made in the Source engine.  Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising both feature zombies and have dead in their title.  Dead Rising and Heavy Rain both have main characters that are reporters.

OMG Heavy Rain beat Super Mario Bros at its own game!

didnt half-life also use quake 1's engine?

well there are some bold statements in this article, though he's right on some of them.

Customizable weapons are always cool and the suit abilities are awesome. Still it doesn't feature any kind of co-op and this makes the Halo series IMO one of the best that exist in gaming history.

The problem is that he lists the best things in Crysis 2 and compares them to Halo, but he doesn't say anything about the best parts of Halo and compares them with Crysis 2.

And that real cities are better than fictional ones is highly debatable. I think HL2's City 17 beats the shit out of both Crysis' New York or Halo's New Mombasa.

4 player online from the same console gaming.

Now that's awesome.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

yea, i wrongly assumed all shooters did this cause of halo. I have been sadly let down-looking at you CoD. Does Crysis 2 have any split screen option online or off?

Didn't read much of the article but I figured to post anyway.

Lets put it this way...Most people should agree that Crysis 1 wasn't even close to Halo anything when it came to fun factor and gameplay. It was a cool shooter with mindblowing visuals but the actual control and gunplay was too cut and dry to compete with the universal appeal Halo has.

And as far as I can tell Crysis 2 is more of the same...just worse.

So how does Crysis 2 beat Halo again?  Is this about visuals or something?

played halo online thousands of hours and after i played crysis 2 online i have to say...no...they aren't like the same games. no clue about single-player but online they are super different to play.

and i think most people buy halo for multiplayer/co-op and most buy crysis for singleplayer.

No. Its actually about how it controls and feels. I have yet to find any game that feels like halo as far as combat goes/multiplayer. All other shooters seem to compete with CoD.

This is because pretty much every game out there is more focused on the mechanics and realism of shooting a gun rather than fun factor and gameplay that is derived from gunplay.

Im not saying other games are not fun as they obiously are. But you can tell Halo focused really hard on centering gunplay around making sure control, balance and user experience is fun. They did not put much effort in to things like...is this how a soldier holds his gun in real life?...does it look badass?...is the recoil realistic?...etc.

Even though similar, Crysis games can't compare with Halo as they try to pass the fictional, sci fi experience and relate it to the real world mechanics, situations and events. Its just another game with Army dudes, and realistic guns (for the most part) and a bunch of aliens invading. Halo created a whole new universe around itself, from the story to the gameplay mechanics which are completely unique to the series... hence why nothing can "beat it at its own game"...except maybe Halflife  if Valve even bothered to make another :)

I agree. I'm enjoying Crysis 2 more. Halo needs a makeover. I loved Halo:Reach but it didn't have the lasting appeal. We need to see Master Chief soon and in a new way.

Exactly what I'm feelin!

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.

This guy is so fucking retarded i just felt compelled to create an account. Crysis 1 and warhead obliterated ODLC AND HALO 3 in terms of reviews and gameplay factors. The biggest console fanboy in youtube exposinglames admitted it when he got a gaming PC. Of course most of you retards just listen to what a fanboy is saying then you take his word as your own without even playing the game at decent frames on high detail.

My friend told me and he is a xbox 360 owner when he played crysis warhead. "Wow this game makes look halo odst for fucking pussies". Its pretty obvious that most people even casual would take crysis 1 over halo 3 any day of the week if they had the components necessary to run the game at high detail, but since they dont they just gotta hate.

If more sales mean better game then GET THIS! Crysis 1 sold 3m on platform where very few people could afford at these times. If it would have released for consoles we wouldnt be having this debate about crysis 1 vs halo 3 because halo 3 is garbage on comparison to the beast.

Now back to crysis 2, the game failed to upheld the reputation its predecessor held becoming a console port while also simulating the multiplayer of a very sold title which is garbage imo cough COD cough.  If it would have kept its graphics fidelity and improve upon them while also keeping the physics to simulate battlefield instead. It would have done a lot better and have a greater chance at taking Halo Reach precious crown. Ask anyone who played halo 3 and crysis 1 and at least 80 percent will prefer crysis over halo 3. I dont think that will be the case for crysis 2 over Reach though.
