Or gamers who own and enjoy their PS3's. And for some who might have become Sony fans because they are enjoying a good product.

Oh, come on, I'm sure most of you would be enjoying it if instead Sony, it were MS or Nintendo.
I usually find these threads amusing to read through but this is just getting sad.
A) Saying he spent donation money on this trip is ridiculous. Most people his age can't afford the legal battle he's fighting, but they might be able to afford a vacation. The amount of money needed for a vacation is not even close to the amount needed for the case. To those who believe he is using donation money, you have no proof, you are just assuming.
B) Either learn some things about US law, or don't talk about it. If you haven't been arrested, or better put, if a warrant for your arrest hasn't been issued, you can leave the country whether the charge is civil or criminal. In the case of the criminal charge though, an arrest warrant will be issued if you miss your court date. This is mostly for DUI and traffic violations since you won't necessarily be arrested, but they are criminal charges, albeit minor ones.
If you miss a civil court date, you don't automatically lose. The case will just proceed as if you weren't there. Yes, this usually means you will just lose, but if the judge thinks the plaintiff's case is weak, you really might not have to show up. And actually, his lawyers might be able to just go ahead without him, I'm not entirely sure on that. But at least I'm admitting that and not just spewing out what I think is right.

So the vacation is more important than financing his legal fees? Donations or no donations, those legal fees need to be given higher financial priority over a vacation. EDIT: Also, do you honestly think that everyone who honestly and reasonably believe that geohot is in the wrong, morally and legally, all hate him? |
I find it very sad how hellbent you are on hating the guy. I'd understand completely if you hated him because he is a douche (which he undoubtedly is), but I strongly suspect that you have a very different motive. And no, it is not reasonable to put aside a long-planned vacation just because of a civil suit. You want him to burn all his personal money to fight this lawsuit because you want him to be punished in some way for circumventing Sony's systems, when in reality he is under no legal or moral obligation to do so.
True that. Looks like Sony will be stuck with the desperate sell out devs. Don't say you weren't warned.
I'm sorry i have no problem with this guy whatsoever and i dont care about the lawsuit but sony only has sell out devs? What a douche.
''I'd quit too if I saw 6 years of my work getting flushed down the toilet'' about peter dille quiting.
This guy isn't making himself very likeable. He acts all high and mighty.
Oh this above is all just my opinion, but i'm scared to share it because you know, this is vgchartz. If you don't like hotz or do like him you get scolded for being a moron or whatever. I'm starting to lose faith in the people on this site. It's just sad

Oh please, the number of Hotz haters on this site is three fold his supporters, this thread alone proves that.

Everything I've said was either in obvious jest or with reason. If there is any impression of "hate," it's only those who chose to throw out common sense in exchange of legalistic minutia. Maybe those are the ones with personal motives. What I will gain from Sony winning and Geohot loosing this legal battle is a more piece of mind that my gaming online expereince will potentially be as fair as it should and knowing that developers will earn more for their hard work in their attempt to provide us gamer awesome entertainment.

My priorities are fine. I have that choice because a big company isn't suing me and screwing me out of my own money in legal fees. I can go on vacation without somebody criticizing me. Maybe if I tell you my vacation plan you can criticize me too for spending on money rather than some charity or giving it away to the poor.
Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

Yep. When you screw around, you get screwed. It happens. Just be glad you didn't publicly screw with a corporation's IP.

I missed a court date by less than 5 minutes and was locked out of the room. Luckily, the lawyer that I had hired for a different case was in the room and got an extension for me. As long as you have some kind of representative in a criminal case, that's what matters, you can even have a family member appear for you and ask for an extension as long as they have a valid reason (the judge has to be in a good mood to actually get it though). Civil cases will go on without you, you just won't be able to testify on your own behalf, the rules are much different.
