Well, I played it today and was impressed, pretty much cemented my interest in it...

Oh yeah, misleading title is misleading, and none of the games make either 3D or motion-controls mandatory

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I have to say when i first played it i was a little dissapointed in the 3D, because everything ive seen has lead me to believe it was pop out 3D not depth 3D, i think if id been informed properly in the first place tho i would of been alot more impressed with it, if you know what i mean, it was just the feeling of expectation.

However the graphics were good the AR games were robust and solid in terms of not flikering like ive seen AR do in the past when it loses the card for slight moments.

For me there is no games at launch so i wont run out and buy one, but i will buy one as soon as there is a must have game, and for my wallets sake i hope that happens near Christmas, or just after a price cut :)

So the image is on the screen and behind it? Nothing in front?

Yeah well i only got to play a couple of the AR games in the Game store, but that was certainly the feeling i came away with from playing with it, it may have beencoming out a tiny bit but there was definatley a much bigger feeling of depth behind the screen layer.

P.S. I am an advocate of 3D love it in the cinema when its used well and i dont get headaches or nausia from watching it, or havent so far fingers crossed. Just wish i could afford a 3DTV for the house

I'm a Nintendo fan and DS fan, but the 3DS' effect in 3d was very minimal and therefore unimpressive in terms of hot it can relate to gaming.  and yes the sweetspot is fairly delicate - not that it matters since putting the 3d all the way up is still not that impressive.

Also, I've never been angry at Nintendo for delivering lesser graphics capabilities in lieu of other better features, but there it actually is awkward to look at unappealin visuals in 3d.  For example, a 3d effect would be pointless for unenhanced graphic games like the DS Zeldas or even a 2d mega man game... because it's awkward to see a 2d image pop out of the screen, or to see jagged 3d image pop up out of the screen.

Idk, I hope my experience gets better with multiple tries.

Anyone thinking glasseless 3d on a 3.5 inch is going to compete with stereoscopic 3D using shutter glasses needs to re-evaluate their priorities.

The guy who write this article needs to check out Metro 2033 on the PC using 3D vision. If he liked Killzone 3, Metro will blow his mind.

I`ll say part of the title is misleading (the last part). Is he a PS fan criticizing Nintendo just because he mentioned KZ3? Seems a bit hasty to call him PS fan and questioning him based on that.

3D doesn`t work well with motion controls? I actually never thought of that but if it doesn`t work, oh well. It`s not a big problem - at least for me.
Personally, i think 3D will be of great value but i don`t expect it to be right now and not with every kind of game. With time, developers will learn how and when to use 3D - better than they do now - and they will eventually realise that it works better on certain genres and probably not use it in those that don`t work that well.

ah! 3D man =)

did you get a go at the 3DS or not yet? i'd be interested in your impressions on it.

(I personally thought it worked pretty well, better than I expected)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

How about this?

"3DS Extremely exciting, even to a person who has had a history of hating 3D effects."

Having played the 3DS a few days ago, my opinion on it changed drastically. Before, I wasn't very interested in it, and I've never been a fan of 3D stuff, but when I started playing it, I had an absolute blast. Everyone did, actually.

One of my favorite things about this system is the AR functionality. It was incredibly fun to use that and I can't wait to see how it's implemented in the future. The other thing I really loved about the 3DS was when I realized that the 3D is about going back in depth, not popping out. I abso-****ing-lutely hate popping out 3D effects, so when I realized it was depth and not pop, I was suuuuper excited.

I'm still going to wait to buy when when more games come out that I enjoy, but I am definitely excited for this console! Also, I think when people get their hands on this and start showing it to their friends, it's going to take off like wildfire.

If anyone has any questions about the 3DS, I might be able to answer them. I've had a bit of time with it.

@disolutide  im with you on this one. i dont see how people can put a small 3DS screen on par with a large 3DHDTV or PC or movie theatre, just seems weird to me. I much rather prefer the pop out effect than the depth so the 3D in the 3DS is inconsequential. Just care about its games

@the OP how did the motion and 3D work in Killzone3???
