A Canadian will be leading the Nato mission in Libya.

Will the new liberal Canadian government accept this premise? Harper and his cronies instigated this "Canadian leadership" bluff to win a domestic election. Looking at the vote of confidence results...Harper failed.

Canadians are far too sensible to involve ground troops in a war where they along with the US, UK, France and the entire Western world does not know who the Libyan revolutionaries are, what they want, and what they intend to do once they oust Gaddafi and publicly hang his family.

The Canadian General is in command of the Nato force. However if you listen to the reports the Nato force will not be attacking ground forces, they are exclusively controlling the air. The US, France and the UK are doing a secondary mission to cripple Gaddafi's ground forces from the air.

I think support here at home will be high for the first while. Canada only has what 8 CF-18's in the mission and a commander. Not to mention the frigate. But still we aren't likely to see body bags coming home which is the biggest thing that effects Canadian citizens. Also Nato itself has re-assured Canada and other countries that its mission will only control the skies and that little to no civilian casualties will occur on our part.

In the end your right the Liberals brought down the Conservative Government. But polls indicate Conservatives are ahead of the Liberals by over 10%. Meaning the election is more of a publicity stunt their a very small chance that the Conservatives will loose the upcoming election. If they do they will be a minority parliament and will have to work with the Conservatives to get much accomplished.

Also a spokesman for the Government today said that the operation shouldn't last more then 90 days.

So Canadian's will be busy voting in a pointless election, their attention will be on the economy and healthcare system not Libya, then once the election is over the Conservatives will probably still be in power and they will keep our units their if the mission isn't done. If the mission drags on to long Canada might strategically withdraw.

However I doubt Canadian's will do anything to jeoprodize the Libya mission.

If they do not root Gaddafi out, Gaddafi wins by outlasting the no-fly zone.

A lot of Americans, including myself, are dead set against the US leading the ground forces in a ground war we have very little interest in (besides the oil reserves).

If you want to look at this historically and going back as recent as World War 2, France and Italy should be fighting for lead of this military operation against Libya. France and Italy should be manning the majority of the air power and ground forces if it comes down to it.

I think this will last well more than 90 days. If Gaddafi ain't dead by then he wins because no country involved in the no-fly zone can support a prolonged military operation in Libya due to budget constraints and popular sentiment.

Or... going back as recently as... right before this war happened.  France and Italy were Libya's closest partners as of... right before this shit went down.

That's why i found it so funny that the French got ahead of this and led the whole "No Fly zone" situation in the first place.

The Italians are far too busy with their Prime Minister's Orgy trial.

I was somewhat suprised. However I think France has always gotten involved in african affairs. I remember in Rwanda the French helped the Rwandan Government and protected some of its members and granted other asylum. Also France has played a huge role in other African countries. I guess theirs still abit of colonialism left in France they still view Africa as their pet project.

So honestly I wasn't suprised to see France getting so involved. I think it was inevitable that they get involved especially when the Government they supported starts butchering its people. I think France wanted to distance themselves from Gaddafi big time. So backing the rebels was a good way to say (We support the Libyan people)!

Kekeke?  What are you a JRPG Villian?

Eitherway, I kinda wish the USA didn't get back involved in this so we could of played the "Illegal war" card and see how the EU likes it ha.

Eh this guy has it covered I guess

What I find weird is "Takes over the dirty work for a diffident United States."

That kinda suggests he think the US SHOULD be doing this kind of thing.
