Jailbreaking will allow you to find the idiots who are close minded and can only see one thing because their limited intellect doesn't allow them to see anythign else.

Realistically, it let's you do things with yoru hardware that you can't do otherwise. You know what jailbreaking an iPhone, or rooting and Android device does? It's more or less the same thing. Let's you have more control over what you bought. I do hear that you can't get on PSN, so there is that effect, and I'm sure youccan't just call up Sony and ask them for repairs too because they are like little children about this issue.

If I am not mistaken, the US ruled that having a jailbroken iPhone is perfectly legal (because Apple wanted to make it illegal), so I am interested how that works for the PS3 as well.

How about understanding WHY someone does something before passing judgment on them?

My take would be, if they jailbreak to pirate, they are jerks.  However, if the goal is to do homebrew stuff, emulate and Piracy , then why would one have no respect for that?  People who homebrew stuff get respect from me personally.

It will let me play PS3 games while keeping everything that I was promised when I bought my PS3 :)

You get to make "backups" or your already scratch resistant game discs.
Emulators so that you can play "backups" of older games that you of course own.
You can use linux which was removed after some guy hacked the PS3 through it.

Cons: ... You have to ban someone else's system if you get banned on PSN and want to return.
