Swweeet! Pre ordered and hopefully on my doorstep soon!

Been looking at this, been loving it.

I'm going to play with sound ques off! (I'm not going to take the punk way out and let music play the game for me, I'm going hard boiled detective!)

Thanks for all the info and everything!!

IGN review. I've recently become very excited for this.

How did I miss this thread?  Thanks for your efforts CGI.  I'll stay off the boards starting tomorrow to avoid spoilage but I am stoked up.  Ballbusters wouldn't take my pre-order because of the receivership but they hid one away with my name on it.  I know TB isn't R* SD but I hope this gets the same kind of critical reception and WoM as RDR.  I was never a big GTA fan and won't mind a more linear storyline and a lot less collecting.

Bring on the low-life.  I'm going for District Attorney and a run for governator.  The sales split will be worth watching.  It's set in the U.S. so 360 has the early advantage but WW should be close.  PS3 will show the better legs.  6-7m total LT?

I'm with Boutros and Co. who think ancient Rome would make an excellent backdrop.  Maybe the late Republic under the dictators Marius and Sulla.  JC was just a whelp growing up in the Subura at the time but things got real interesting.  Not sure how accurate Colleen MacCullough's (sp.?)  trilogy is but it was quite a read.  Lindsay Davis' Falco might translate well.  A legionary turned detective in the time of Vespasian & sons.  Sorry, way off topic.  Come on Tuesday

.

Is it a sandbox-type world?

I played a few hours of it, so I'll post a quick summary of my initial impressions.

Gameplay: The controls are horrible, and the shooting mechanics are average; running is awful, camera is annoying, and aiming sucks. I can't find a way to turn invert aim on or off.

The detective stuff, on the other hand, is pretty fun. Basically, you investigate the area looking for clues like in Phoenix Wright. Also, there might be a few puzzles or action scenes after investigating the crime scene. I like that you can progess without finding all the evidence, and that you can turn off evidence hints off. It makes investigating the crime harder and more authentic. I want to put my mind into this game. I want to be a real detective and not be babied. I will put every criminal behind bars with my superior intellect.

Interviewing suspects and witnesses is well-done, imo. Basically, you ask a question regarding the crime, and after they answer, you can accept their answer as truth, doubt it or call a bluff. If you call their answer a lie, you have to provide them with the appropriate evidence to support your claim. If you pick the wrong evidence, you get sort of penalized. You might miss some crucial information, or they might refuse to talk to you after that. Also, the less questions that were successfully answered, the more likely you'll fail this case.

Presentation: One word: unparalleled! The facial animations are fantastic, and you have to keep an eye on the guy's face you're interviewing to find out if he's bluffing or not. Brilliant stuff here, imo. Music is pretty good, voice-acting is top-notch, the setting is very interesting, and the city at night looks wonderful.

Story/characters: The characters are likable including Phelps, the character you control. It's kind of funny how serious Phelps takes his job, but then again, I'm like that :). The cases have been interesting to say the least, and I read they're based on real-life crimes, which is intriguing.

I'm liking it so far. It's way better than that borefest RDR. One major concern I have with the game is the replay value; replaying the game won't be as fun as the first playthrough since I'll know who did it, what clues to look for, where to search, etc.

Options-Controls I think it is has the invert option.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

I've played several cases and all I can say is that it's really good. At first it's a little slow because you start by doing small cases as a patrol officer, but maybe 2 hours into it is when it starts to get really interesting.

The dialogue and story are amazing. You don't start out doing big cases at first, but once you do is when it really shows its stuff. The facial animations really are what brings this game together because most of the time you are trying to find out if a suspect is lying or telling the truth so the facial animations really makes this game special.

The gameplay is very similar to GTA, which isn't that big of a deal.

The game is really something different than what I've played before. It's really enjoyable looking for clues and interrogating witnesses. If your looking for a unique game I would recommend this.

The only thing I don't really understand is the WWII flashbacks. I'm not sure what that has to do with the main plot, but I'm sure it will connect somehow.

the MC is a war vet not long out of the army hence the flashbacks.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

My small contribution.  First impressions after a few hours in the game.

FIrst of all, the facial expressions are really amazing.  This makes the game so much more interesting.  And it is an integral part of the gameplay during interrogations.  You really have to study the suspects during the questionning to make the right decisions.  I read some posts bragging how easy all of this is, but I find it very complex and fascinating.

All of the gameplay mechanics work really well.  The driving is fun and feels a lot like Mafia 2.  The city itself is good looking and is freaking huge.  I can see myself spending hours just driving around, discovering the landmarks and taking in the sights.  Since their is a lot of checkpoints, it's fun to do.

So far, the gathering of evidence is spot on.  The level of details is great and it makes for a really immersive experience.

And finally, I think that it's great to see a game that demands observation and some thought process.  I sure hope it sells well.  I want more game like it and Portal 2.

I only found the option for the Y-axis (left and right). Couldn't find one for up and down; I'll check again.

I hope the PSN store is up soon (if it hasn't already). I have about 3 or 4 DLC codes for LA Noire.
