The difference:  How many times did you see someone from the German goverment go to Auswitch and thanks the German soldiers who died their for their great work?  Or how many times did you hear the German government denies what happend with the 6 million jews?  After 70 years Japan still act like it is all blown out of proportion what happened, so how do you want people stop their grudge? Especially with prime ministers like Taro Aso who basically have a WWII mentality.

How many Americans feel any shame for what their ancestors did to the Native Americans? How many Americans feel any shame for the Mexican-American war? What about Iraq?

Japan didn't do anything outstanding that should make them feel any more shame than any other power hungry nation who wanted to conquer the world.

The difference:  If you ask Obama what he thinks about it he probably would have a lenghty speech how horrible it must have been for the native Americans and how Amerika may not forgot it and a lot more stuff but the last thing he would say is 'Nothing happened it is all a lie or it is blown out of proportion'

That is a huge difference....

Empty words. It's no better.

Now I remember Japan's last Prime Minister issuing apologies to China and some other countries. Now I do know the raping of women and turning them into sex slaves was an issue that Japan didn't apologize for. However America hasn't apologized for doing the same to the Natives and the American's were often accused of rape and pillaging in Vietnam yet I didn't hear any apology.

Also I was watching a documentary alittle while ago about Germany. Merkel did talk about the German soldiers as fighting for Germany, she also said they weren't all evil (If I remember correctly it was a year or so ago). Fact is Germany wants to forget what they did to the jews. While they aknowledge some of it they still try to act like it never happened.

Now of course if you hold Japan up to Canadian standards you might have a problem. Canada apologizes for everything and anything. But thats one thing I dislike about my country, were always apologizing theirs no "Hey you know what it was justifiable". Nope its apology after apology.

I think those Nazi's (Many of them) and the Japanese soldiers (Many of them) were simply doing their job. They were following orders from the state and carrying them out. They died for their country like most soldiers in any country do. As such the majority of them deserve respect and to be remembered. If Japan's Prime Minister wants to honour the soldiers who fought for his country then he should do so, sure they may have been fighting for a tyrant but they were still fighting for his country.

What about Vietnam, thousands of people died and the US army commited atrocities like theirs no tomorow. Should the US now pretend they never fought for the US. Should President Obama avoid the war memorials and not aknowledge the sacrafices these men commited in service of their country.

Another thing I got appauled by, the Prime Minister visited the memorial in Hiroshima, for the people killed by the A-Bomb. China got all upset, but the majority of those killed by the A-Bomb's were civilians and they definatly did not deserve to die. They should be remembered and the Prime Minister should definatly mourn for his people who were killed.

Its just stupid for people to hold a country responsable for actions taken 70 years ago. Whether or not the current Government has issued enough apologies. The dead who died fighting for their country deserve some recognition, they weren't all monsters they were men just like you and I who fought for their misguided country.
