Forums - Sony - PS3 hack proof again

A notorious PS3 hacker has commented on Sony’s latest firmware update to fix the piracy issue on the console. Apparently the company has a broad overarching strategy that may be an “epic save.”

KakARoToKS is a notorious PS3 hacker known for releasing the first custom firmware after the console was hacked. The custom firmware allowed others to pirate games on the console, which has become an uphill cat and mouse chase between Sony and the hackers.

However, KaKaRoToKS recently tweeted that he believes Sony is implementing a fool-proof three-step solution which should completely fix the exploit discovered by the hackers. He writes:

Sony’s 3 step solution: 1 – secure firmware update (3.56), 2 – secure firmware decryption (3.60), 3 – secure psn: change psn protocol (3.6x)

When someone stated that Sony could not fix the exploit because its on a hardware level, KakARoToKS replied back by stating, “…the hardware exploit can easily be fixed by software.”

According to KakARoToKS, Sony has completely removed all the loaders that were being used for piracy and have bypassed metldr, which was used by the hackers.

He writes, “Wow, in 3.60, Sony removed all the loaders, no more isoldr/lv1ldr/lv2ldr/appldr.. but they added lv0.2! Seems they found a way to secure ps3.”

KakARoToKS stated that he won’t be trying to break the 3.60 firmware as he is satisfied with the current version. He writes:

3.55 was great, people that love homebrew (including me) will stay there, everyone else will update, sounds like a fair balance.

oh, before I get flooded : NOT BY ME! I don’t really care about breaking the PS3, I’m fine with what we have so far. I will NOT work on it!!

It seems like Sony has finally done it, a complete fix of the inherent flaw in the security system of the PS3. With new games shipping with the latest firmware, it looks like the days of hacking the PS3 are numbered.

i like good news

This is the first time I hear anything good out of KakARoToKS.

Good. Lets hope it stays that way.

Now I don't care what happens to geohot and chocolo guy though, that's just secondary lol.

Lol, you can feel the guy fear of being sued.

The problem is that tools are out which make it completely unnecessary to update the PS3 firmware.

PSN Banned console with 3.55 can access PSN with ease...

They'll find a way...the hackers always find a way.

"with great power, comes great responsibility."

happy with my ps3, new update 3.60 and screw hackers!!

hmm good news

If you read the OP you would see that that's on step 3 (FW 3.6x - change PSN protocol) according to Kokoraku or whatever his name is. That FW is not out yet so we'll have to wait and see.

I'll believe the PS3 is secure again if, and only if, 3.6 and beyond is not hacked AND people won't be able to get online after they change the PSN protocol thing.
