Forums - Sales - PS3 sold 403,000 in February. Kinect bundles outsold Move bundles 5:1

While Sony was reluctant to hand out the hardware data, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter passed along the NPD data for the PS3 console: it sold 403,000 units for the month of February. That's up 12% year-over-year but it's still not as good as Xbox 360's 535,000 (27% bump) or Wii's 454,000 (14% rise). Additionally, the PlayStation Move continues to be outsold by Kinect it would seem.

"Under one-fifth of PS3 sales included bundles with Sony’s Move controller, suggesting another modest month (we have chosen not to subscribe to peripheral data). Over 2/3 of Xbox 360 sales included bundles with Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, as Xbox 360 Kinect console bundles again outsold PS3 Move console bundles by over 5:1," commented Pachter. "We note that the top selling Kinect software titles easily outsold their Move counterparts."

Pachter also reiterated that price cuts are likely forthcoming but that for now 360 and Kinect have the momentum.

"We expect demand for the Xbox 360 to remain stronger than the other consoles due to the popularity of Kinect. We expect Wii and PS3 hardware sales to continue to decline (despite February’s up month for both) in the first part of 2011," he said. "Without further price cuts, we expect hardware sales to be down in 2011, and we think that the console manufacturers will position cuts around the E3 Expo in early June."

I expected a bit higher for PS3 but it is still nice to see it up YoY.

Also seems that Seece was right yesterday with his 5:1 call.

one thing i dont understand, it seems that month for month xbox outsells ps3, but when the year totals come out, ps3 outsells the xbox.

5:1... that's amazing

Living here in the States, I see why the ratio is 5:1. Much more marketing for Kinect, more word of mouth (which doesn't mean Move's is bad), and a fresher idea than Move.

Not that Sony should be too worried, Move is doing better than they expected and it wasn't expected to beat out Kinect. But I still hand Microsoft more credit in the area of business, they took a gamble and it paid off in spades! It's kept the 360 healthy through Qtr. 1!

Pretty much this.

I don't even remember saying that xD but yeah, I think it's been 5:1 in the U.S since launch.

This means less than 80k move bundles and over 360k kinect bundles.

We have Kinect doing 460k in AMERICAS for Feb ... - 10%/12.5% off from Mexico ect (45k/55k) and looks like even with adjustments we're severly undertracking Kinect. (our standalone figures indicate only 40k.... vs 360k bundles?!)

You've said that in January Pach said that Kinect was outselling Move 5:1 and shed some light on the fact that everyone were very excited that somehow Kinect earned like 260M revenue when move has earned 210M was false because the difference in numbers can't be that drastic MoM :L

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I love how he said awhile ago, that 360 is going to do a price cut first, and now it will be the only console to remain strong? Seriously this dude, is one of luckiest dude, because I don't think people would get away with half the stuff he says.

Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft should just make sure it isn't edit: June, when they do the cut (even if it is most likely is) so he can't claim he was right, even if it wasn't microsoft first.

Of course the Americas happen to the the Xbox 360's strongest market.  It also seems that Kinect appeals to the "Western" audience as well which gives the Xbox 360 boost in the Americas.  I really think Kinect was seriously needed to give the Xbox 360 a shot in the arm to sustain its current sale when you consider that the PS3 still outsells it worldwide.
