More good news for Sony PS3z... how can Valve changed the side so much.

Portal 2 on the PS3 is "The One To Get" for Cross Platform Co-Op

Are you wondering which console will have the best version of Portal 2?  Valve has insisted that each version of the game is the same across all platforms.  This may not be the case.  For console gamers who value cross platform play, the PS3 version is "the one to get." Why?  Content-wise, both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 versions are supposed to be exactly the same.  Valve writer Chet Faliszek recently explained the differences between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions to Eurogamer:

"It's just once you start looking at co-op...  The Mac, PC and PS3 can all play together, they will all get updates quicker."

Another Valve writer, Eric Wolpaw, made the choice crystal clear:

"If playing cross PC and PS3 is important to you, then pretty clearly it's not even a matter of opinion. PS3 is the one to get."

Faliszek went on to explain the benefits of the PS3 version:

"On PS3... you get the frequent updates. The frequent updates allow a lot of things. They allow the cross-platform play to happen. You get the Steam cloud. So if you're playing a PS3 over (at) your friend's house, and play on his PS3 the save is recorded.

You also get the Steam copy. It's not a copy we just give away. It's attached to your PSN and Steam account. But yeah, there are some cool things you can do there."

So there you have it, folks.  If you enjoy a little cross platform co-op, the PS3 version is the choice for you.  Xbox 360 owners probably won't even notice, because they'll be too busy being awesome. (That, or getting screamed at by twelve year olds while playing through the quagmire of Xbox LIVE.)

If you're looking to save a few bucks, Amazon has got you covered.  Right now you can pre-order Portal 2 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or PC and save five dollars.  This deal won't last forever, so get to buying.

They just know, unless they hype the PS3 version up, it'll bomb like a megaton blast. All this, including the buy PS3 version and get steam version free are just the ways to ensure that the sales are decent enough. That's my take on it anyway.

I'm pretty sure they'd try to do this on the 360 if MS would allow. Valve has been bitching at MS's policy over updates and DLC content for ages now. I guess Sony was simply more accomodating as they would like to have a world class developer that was previously antagonistic towards their platform onboard.

Well, I think ShadowRun allowed 360 players to play with PC players but it was a rather useless feature as majority of players were 360 anyway, I've played that game quite alot I don't think I've ever encountered anyone playing PC, or I might have, but very few. I don't think that this ability to play with other versions shizz will have that large of an impact, I've booted up the Orange Box recently and there were still plenty a games going on TF2, that game has been around for a fair share of it's years now, overall I think that the online component will likely be the same, games will be easy to find the only major change will be that updates will likely roll out a day or so later. It's interesting how they've changed the stance from anti-PS3.

Sorry my quote thingy majingy went haywire so I couldn't quote properly >_>

Yes but Shadowrun was a first party game and the only one of its ilk. The main issue here is that there is NO WAY MS would ever allow steam to be on the 360 much less provide free DLC or constant updates without certificate (which is what steam will likely provide).

And anyways, not only is Portal 2 a co-op only game but we're talking about a Vavle release, there will be plenty of people playing this game on the PC/MAC.

More importantly, I rarelty if ever random co-op games, the nature of random co-op simply doesn't appeal to me, I'm certain some people feel the same way. Co-op is simply better with friends, and if a friend of mine doesn't have a PS3 or a gaming PC, itr wouldn't matter now, we can still co-op, so I feel this is a very nice feature giving the nature of the game.

Cant wait to get my ps3 copy of Portal2 :)

Pre ordered my copy on PS3 couple of days ago, it was cleary the version to buy, even tho i will most likely play it mostly on pc, it was worth the few extra £ to have it on both platforms.

As a future buyer for the PS3 version, does my Steam email account and PS3 email account need to be the same in order to play my PC version that'll come free with the PS3 version?  Cause i made my Steam account way back and has a different email than my PS3.
