Well, I think ShadowRun allowed 360 players to play with PC players but it was a rather useless feature as majority of players were 360 anyway, I've played that game quite alot I don't think I've ever encountered anyone playing PC, or I might have, but very few. I don't think that this ability to play with other versions shizz will have that large of an impact, I've booted up the Orange Box recently and there were still plenty a games going on TF2, that game has been around for a fair share of it's years now, overall I think that the online component will likely be the same, games will be easy to find the only major change will be that updates will likely roll out a day or so later. It's interesting how they've changed the stance from anti-PS3.
