Forums - Sony - Firmware 3.60 is up!

I noticed something new last night when my game froze. I booted up my PS3 after and you usually get the "this system was not shut down properly; make sure you do this/that to properly shut it down. Instead of that, I got a choice to send Sony a report about it not shutting down properly.

OK I think I'm going to be officially miffed with Sony with what they've done recently. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And let me be clear, there was no compelling reason for me to sign up to PSN at the moment so now signing up for PSN just for cloud saving is not value for money for me.

If I want to back up my hard drive I have to:

1. delete all DLC

2. sign up to PSN

3. save all copyright protected game saves to the cloud

4. delete all copyright protected game saves off my HDD

(4a. Delete game data?)

5. run the HDD backup utility

6. re-download all DLC that I need/intend to use

7. retrieve my cloud saves back onto my HDD

8. let the PSN subscription run out

9. run through steps 1-8 whenever I want to back up my HDD or upgrade to a larger HDD.

Screw you Sony.

No. You have to plug in an external hard drive, use the backup utility, change your hard drive, use the restore utility, and you're done.

Except the backup utility hasn't worked the last 3 times I tried to do it, I searched the error message on the web and what I could find was that you get the error message if you have copyright protected material on your HDD. Which means you've got to wipe all copyright protected material off your HDD before you can run a backup. PK with DLC because you can just re-download and all it costs you is internet data and time. But for copyright game saves you've got to sign up to PSN plus to retain your saves. I would love you to tell me that this error is something else and how to sort it out. But nothing I've seen on the web suggests it's anything other than blocking the back up of copyright protected info.

They've added the option to have your controllers shut down after 20 or 30 minutes.  On the one hand, it won't shut down mid-show while watching Netflix anymore, but on the other hand, that's a lot of wasted battery power.

Can already set to 10 minutes.

I've been able to do this since before the previous update.

These updates suck,I've never been excited for one of these.

i believe its gonna have more and more cool stuff working with cloud server in future, guess its time for more user to sign up for PSN-plus subscription...

what i really want would be a feature that lets you have different system settings for different accounts.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

What I really want is for certain portions of these updates to be optional, because I could, quite frankly, care less about 90% of the things the updates provide, and they take forever to download on my slow internet.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
