Forums - Sony - FW 3.60 brings cloud storage for save games to PSN Plus

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2011/03/09/online-storage-available-to-playstation-plus-members-from-tomorrow/

In response to overwhelming demand from the PS3 community, we are pleased to announce that Online Storage for Game Saves will be available to PlayStation Plus members from tomorrow, 10 March, allowing you to store your game saves for peace of mind and easy access from any PlayStation 3 system in the world.

After downloading PS3 System Software Update 3.60, Plus members will have access to 150MB of space and will be able to store up to 1000 PS3 game saves.

To do so, simply highlight the game save you want to store in the [Saved Data Utility (PS3)], press the triangle button to bring up the options, select “copy” and then select “Online Storage” as the destination. In turn, you can access your Online Storage list via [Saved Data Utility (PS3)] when signed into PlayStation Network on a friend’s PS3 and download your stored game saves to carry on your game from where you left off.

If the developer has chosen to implement copy protection on their game saves, you can still copy those files to Online Storage but there will be a 24 hour period, after each save, before you can then download them on any PS3.

If your PlayStation Plus subscription expires then you will no longer be able to access Online Storage until you renew your subscription. However, any game saves stored will be kept for six months and you will be able to access them as before when you renew the subscription, as long as you do so within that six month period.

Hopefully that tells you everything you need to know about this new, much requested service. If you do need any more information, the official PlayStation forums have posted a guide, and ask us in the comments as always.

Neat, that's certainly a big point in favor for PS Plus for me, though it seems like it will get annoying to transfer saves manually. It does make it easier for future games to play on both the NGP and PS3 though!

So this means I can stop backing up my big ass hard drive, which always takes about two hours? YESSSSSSS!

YES HES HES HE SBBJSKJBSFDbkAZfnkBSfJNBKJ!!!!!@!@122121!!!!!!!!

FUCK YES!

I will be getting this sh*t. Oh wait why bother censoring, I will be getting this shit.

Yeees.

I've been afraid my ps3 is gonna die any time now.  Perfect timing to back up my Demon's Souls, LittleBigPlanet, and Nier saves.

Watch it die while I'm updating lol.  =(

At times like these, I'm glad I'm a plus member...but at times like these I hate the fact that sky are being dicks and not supplying me with my fucking broadband...

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

I really hope they add in the ability to store ps1/2 saves at some point. Given all future PS consoles will support ps1/2 games (via disc or PSN), it only makes sense.

And I was hoping this would be more seamless, ala Steam. As in you can access online saves directly via a game, instead of having to copy them over beforehand.

Finally a good firmware update for us (at least PSN Plus members).

Really, this is not cloud storage at all.  It is merely as Sony labeled it: online storage of saved games.  It's simply a folder via which you can manually store your saves online, and each save file must be uploaded individually.

It's a feature I appreciate and will make use of, but it's a far cry from Steam's cloud saving functionality.

As good as this is, it could be better. Games that save to PSN cloud directly. One "click" backup of all save files. PS1/PS2/PSN game saves.

Been PSN plus  member since the beginning, but this still barely makes it worth it.

yeah its merely another version of a backup, i dont think it will allow you to save directly to the cloud.

This means that you will have to save your game before you quit the game (like always), then copy that save to the cloud, (as if you are saving to a flash drive),

then you can access it from any ps3 that has your psn account set up.

this is cool but it really only saves the time of fumbling with external drives and nothing more.
