source

Third party peripheral maker Nyko is at it again, this time, revealing two new accessories that is all set to debut with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS this March.

Launching the same day as the 3DS, the Power Pak+ is a high capacity rechargeable battery pack specially build for the device that offers double the capacity and battery life of the original 3DS battery. One week later, Nyko will unleash their latest Charge Base, "designed to store your Nintendo 3DS and make sure it’s always fully juiced with easy drop-in charging."

“Every new console or game system launch is an opportunity for us to find ways to improve the user’s experience with the device through innovative technology,” said Chris Arbogast, director of marketing, Nyko Technologies. “We are proud to be able to bring our robust knowledge of charging technology to the 3DS user base by providing users the ability to substantially increase their play time.”

The Nyko Power Pak+ for Nintendo 3DS features debossed finger rests for improved control and comfort. It will be available in March 27 for US$ 19.99. The Nyko Charge Base on the other hand features an on/off switch as well as LED indicator lights that let you know when your battery is charging and when it has finished. The Charge Base for Nintendo 3DS will set you back US$ 29.99.

Excellent. I'll wait to hear other's opinions and weigh my battery life experience with the 3DS before I rush to buy, though...

The first one sounds useful, but isn't the second one already included with the system?

Different design, I think. The Nyko base is both a battery pack and a comfort grip.

I'd probably buy one when they go on sale for $10 :)

That peripheral looks like a disaster.

Well this now makes all those complates about the battery life pointless now. it also shows off a certain issue in trade offs when designing a system, if you want a greater battery life you can get it but the system is going to be bulkier and less compact.

So is the battery pack a replacement battery (inner) or an attachment to the back of your 3DS?

Looks like attachment.

:(

The 3DS battery looked like a regular Li-ion battery (like the ones in cell phones) - Why couldn't they make one to fit inside a 3DS with something better than 1300mAh (current 3DS capacity)

No, thanks. Even a 0.5 hr battery life would be more acceptable for me than this ugly accessory.
