It would be a legal nightmare for Nintendo, class actions and such. The no trade in is different, and I agree with that, but bricking is going too far.

How is it going too far? Just look at Sony's case right now or their banning ways. If this is what piracy has lead to, then so be it.

Bricking is going too far in a legal way, I'm not talking in a moral way. I'm sure that Nintendo would have very serious problems with the justice if they decided to remotely kill some consoles, and it's traceable to them.

I wonder what media next gen Xbox will use.

Digital distribution only. It's the future.

Good luck downloading100 gb games on a 54mbit internet

pbbbt, now THAT'S how you troll the pirates. Hackers will probably find a workaround, but at the very least Nintendo won't make it easy

Oh no!

I'm pretty sure 100GB games are still far far away. Let's assume a more realistic 10-20GB for an average game. On an 8mbit connection 20GB would take 6 hours or so. That's a lot faster than ordering a game from amazon.

Bricking on purpose is going too far, but bricking by 'accident' due to conflicts with unautherized software is completely ligit.

didn't MS brick a bunch of hacker's consoles a while back?  i don't remember them getting in any trouble.

So I can have my 3DS bricked for playing back-ups of games own? Not cool, Nintendo :(

You're not fooling anyone. Who would need a backup of a brand new 3DS game?

DS flashcarts work on the 3DS, no?

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

The no-trade-in thing is fair (though it would be ultimately impossible to enforce, i would think), but i am going to get downright angry if they start bricking systems. Locking up the system you own retroactively is downright criminal, and if Sony should be forced into restitution for removal of Other OS, all the more so for the permanent removal of all functionality.

The technology behind this could be used for a more benign solution that doesn't involve violation of consumer rights, so i damn well hope Nintendo goes that way.
