Forums - Nintendo - The conspiracy against DKC Returns

I always suspected a super secret, dare I say, a SPECIAL organization was behind this and many more video game atrocities. Evil now has a name, and that name is SPECIAL. I look forward to hearing of your future exploits against this heinous organization.

@OP

OT:

Great thread!

And I totally agree with the general theme here, DKCR has been severely underrated, a great injustice has been done.

There really hasn't been a platformer this good since SNES, there just simply hasn't been.

DKCR may not be the most innovative title evarr...but it near about refines and perfects the genre to perfection and adds in its own awesome quirks.

*the word 3D in the following post isn't the more popularly known 3D of today but the "old" meaning of what 3D used, so not 2D.

The art design and 3D pop out stuff, in general the use of 3D objects in this 2D world has been done spectacularly (anyone elses jaw drop during the level where boulders drop on you? and then roll down a hill away from the screen while you need to jump in time...it was so well done). Another great example of the use of 3D in the 2D world is the octopus level, that was just so fantastic, his tentacles on the screen and everything was done very well, it was one of the genre defining moments.

Then we have the platforming itself and the levels, astounding variety, no two levels feels the same. The levels end when they need to, they never drag. Next we have locations...ok I admit many of them seem very similar, thats something that can be improved, but there is still variety even there.

The boss battles were amazing, arguably the best in any platformer ever maybe. Each boss battle was different, a new experience that needed you to apply your platforming skills in different ways. My fav is the boss battle on the mine cart...it was so unlike any boss battle I had experienced before.

DKCR is definetely the greatest platformer released in a long long time and however trolly this might sound to me it honestly made NSMB Wii look like a last gen game in every way .

At the end of the day the sales have spoken and DKCR is doing well, but the media appreciation just isn't there, which is sad.

Is it really so hard to be honest? To you NSMB Wii was a last gen game (at best) a long time before you even played DKCR.

Reported for implying Wii is last gen.

I don't think it made it look "last gen" as much as it made it look like a cheaper and inferior game (I noticed how cheap it looked before DKCR was announced anyways)

I'm not even sure what you mean by "last gen" - most Wii games aren't a huge leap ahead of last gen games in terms of graphics - - - Poor choice of words perhaps?

I will, however, say this: Those two games do not deserve to have the same metacritic in my opinion

Hey guys.  I'm back on Earth.

@ darth  I don't think that saying that NSMB Wii looking last generation is the right choice of words.  It was a well made game.  I will agree that DKC Returns makes NSMB Wii look like a lesser game though.  The levels in the later look barren compared to DKC.  Also, the graphics and the difficulty level are much more impressive in the former.  The replayabilty level is extensive.  I have beaten the game 200%, medaled each level in time trials, and now am trying to get all the shiny gold medals.  I could be playing this game for ten years.  :p  NSMB Wii had the coins, but this did not lengthen the game nearly as much.

@ Rol  I think that what darth was saying was that he believes that DKC Returns trounces NSMB Wii  (he used a bad choice of words - kind of like when you called me a jerk).  I would have to agree.

I received it as a present for Christmas yet I haven't even played it.... I feel ashamed.  I will come out of hiding tomorrow once I get a few good hours in on this game....

No, what he did is the same as it would be if you said that the new Goldeneye on the Wii made Boom Blox look like a bad game.

That would be stating the obvious and I don't see a problem with that.  I don't follow exactly what you are trying to say.

Did he bash NSMB Wii that hard?  I don't recall.

Seth, what's wrong with you?  What could you possibly be doing in your free time besides playing this breathtaking game?  Tell me what you think of it when you try it for a few hours.

Apparently, I have been wasting my time with Black Ops on Wii mainly.  Also, I blame Monster Hunter Tri.  Just don't report this incident to Club Nintendo or I might be banished for life for my grave mistake.  I will report back to you in this thread once I give this game the chance it so deserves tomorrow (can't do tonight because I already started drinking and I want to be sober to play this game).

He was trolling NSMB Wii repeatedly in the past, so it's not like he needed to experience DKCR to put NSMB Wii down. Just like you didn't need Goldeneye to know that Boom Blox is terrible.

What bothers me is that darth uses DKCR as an excuse to take another stab at NSMB Wii, because he isn't man enough to simply state that he despises the game no matter what.

How did he speak about Little Big Planet?

I tried that game for a few minutes and that's all I can say about that without angering people...
