your title isn't even close to what the article you posted is saying...

the ps3 allows developers the option to create smaller scale games and release them digitally only, guess that means every ps3 game at retails is AAA then??   right...

Well yeah, it was influenced by the original article of course and seemed acceptable since, he Andrew House told MCV ‘’that the blockbuster NGP games, such as Uncharted and Call of Duty, will be released on store shelves at the same time as they will be made available digitally. But he predicted smaller games will only be released through the console’s download service.’’ which does at least seem to suggest that much.

How so?

Edit: Maybe some think that this title would mean both local shops and online, in which case I apologize for.

I kind of wonder how effective this will be as a strategy ...

Videogame hardware (generally speaking) is sold with very slim margins at retail, and retailers only sell the hardware in order to sell software and accessories. At the same time, digital distribution is a business model which is designed to cut retailers out of the loop in order to increase the margins of software producers. Now, this hybrid approach could work out very well for all involved; or it could work out that retailers don’t see the revenue they want, physical media fans don’t have the selection they desire, and smaller game producers don’t see the game sales they want.

I really don't know what will happen, but it should be interesting to see how this turns out.

well he PREDICTED it and that don't make it fact. If he said will no doubt be released on the download service you wouldn't be right. The man is just suggesting mainly smaller games will available for DD, but there is nothing to support Sony only ever make them DD.

I people referencing the psp go make absolutely no sense simply because the psp go wasn't their ONLY from of revenue from the psp platform. They didn't drop all psp sku's when they released the go, all the go was was a DD only version of the psp, so it's failure to capture the mainstream meant absolute nothing. This is something I never understood ever since the go launched, people acting on it's failure to cultivate mass success as some kind of DOOM in any way? Now if the go was the ONLY psp available then what it has done can be considered a failure, but we all know that's isn't the case.

This is exactly the case of the PS3 or Xbox 360... of course it's a good move, it expands the possibilities for developers, they can take higher risks since they won't have to worry about the physical part of the logistics.

sounds like they havent learned from the horrible mess known as the pspgo, and want the ngp to fail by this way of thinking. i hope they change this thinking over time, because if they dont the ngp will get obliterated by the 3ds in sales and support.

if they stick with this strategy then i wont buy that many games for the ngp, i am getting the device on launch day for sure, but will only buy games that hit retail. since i love my physical media and not are much of a fan of digital downloading to get my games .

Agreed.

what's different between this and the PS3 or 360? There are going to be games that are download only and the majority of games will come to retail.

I don't buy PSN games either (expect when they are at a ridiculously low price).

I like to touch my games.

Do you like to touch them at night?
