And the legend keeps crumbling...

Battle director for XIII?  Good thing he left that was a terrible system.  Kinda wish they realized ATB was and still is the best system for JRPGs.

What, you didn't like pressing A most of the time?

I disagree with both of you.

I'm playing FFVII for the first time, after playing FFXIII, and IMO FFXIII has a better battle system.

In FFVII is way more repetitive and easier. In FFXIII the Paradigm System changes everything. You need to have a lot of strategy to win a battle in less time. You can only "attack, attack, attack, cure, attack...." and make a battle last 20 minutes...Or find other strategies to reduce the time to 1 minute.

"Auto-battle" and "Repeat"  were good choices. It maintains the battle fast-paced and don't make you lose time choosing a random attack. It leaves you time to think and change strategies.

I take it the new Front Mission is basically a watered down armored Core game?  I saw it at work, but the screenshots looked worrying, then this news did not help...lol

Compared to FF XIII's and X's battle systems, ATB is shite. In fact, it's shite compared to MOST systems.

I personally consider FFX the high-point in terms of combat for the series (though for turn-based JRPGs in general the MegaTen series still takes the cake), though I agree FFXIII was pretty bad. Sure, it was challenging, but after you figured out the strategy to deal with a group of enemis the challenge disentigrated and it just became tedious,

But FFX's system is old, really old... and it's not the best but it is one of the better systems out there. XIII doesn't even have the ability to directly control your team and it's basically the bastardized version of ATB.
