You were saying?
Hehe didn't know this was such a touchy subject :D
If I were in a position of travelling a lot and had some extra money to spare then a NGP or 3DS would be waaaaaay more appealing than playing on my stupid smartphone.
In fact, I fckng hate my blackberry. Can't wait till my contract is finished so I can just get a normal small phone where everyone doesn't text you every few minutes.

Nor did I
Also, my Dad has a Blackberry and he loves it, however, he is a businessman. It is very much a business-phone. I'm happy with my LG Cookie (better not say that to a Sony fan
)
In the end it al comes down to personal taste. Do you want a cheap, disposable game which is fun for VERY short bursts, or a proper game made by proper developers, but costs more?
Personally, the latter is for me, but opinion is opinion
I enjoy gaming on my smartphone more than any handhelds. There is a lot of good games out there, you just have to look. Everything from Roleplaying, Sim, Action, Puzzle all between 1-10 bucks. They quality is also there.
You know, I like to play Uncharted and Killzone and Zelda and Metroid, but you know what? Farmville fills that void just perfectly.
I do get mildly offended whenever an "analyst" claims that gamers have the sufficient lack of taste to choose bite-sized, cheap (and often, I'll admit, rather enjoyable) minigames over actual full-scale gaming experiences, just because the latter are more expensive. Ferrari isn't dead just because more people drive Toyotas.
EDIT: Oh hang on, it isn't an analyst. See post below.
Also, ngmoco is the studio that makes the We _ series. I don't think they're really the most impartial and unbiased people to ask about the topic of social gaming as compared to traditional gaming. They want people to invest in their sector rather than that of their opponents, right?
This is the same thing people used to say about consoles vs PCs back in the day, that the market would move more towards PC gaming and that consoles would be phased out. But look where we are now.
I think there will always be a market out there for people who want serious, deticated gaming handhelds just like there is a massive base for home consoles.
Well the game developers are abandoning their game platform for GDC/DICE
"Here's a good weather vane for the gaming industry: ask people what they'll be taking on the plane as they fly to the Game Developers Conference. This year, the amount of DSs and PSPs may be at an all-time low as people are simply playing games on their mobile phones or tablets."
Tease.

I am also not taking my GP2X Wiz with me to do the same thing... I just loaded up my Windows Phone with games which should pe plenty to entertain me during the flight there and back. Not saying that these handhelds will fail, but people have way more options these days when it comes to portable gaming. Some of us may decide to move on from the portable console idea since the phones are providing some pretty fun games. |
Phones dont have buttons though.
Sux to play on a touch screen only.
