The Master has been abducted? >__<

We must bring back the master and oliist must take his place, if all is lost..

Red named people that are also responsible for the DB are often going the way of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815.

I fear I could get LOST.

^There's our leader, he's the only man for the DB job. Obviously it's got to be an original DB Admins, you can't pick someone that's not an Admin, you need someone with lot's of experience and we all know who's got the most.

I don't expect thanks, it just annoys me a little when long-time members moan about the fact that the site has changed from 2006 / 2007. I owe a large amount to you guys for coming here to start with and help build an initial idea into a site but things change and evolve. VGChartz has doubled its earnings every year for the last 3 years (so if you do the math we did 8 times as much in 2010 as in 2007), taken on loads of staff etc etc - the growth of the site in so many ways is very obvious and yet people wonder why it isn't as basic and simple as it was back in 2007. I prefer the site ten times over how it is now to how it was then and it has taken a lot of hard work and investment to get it to where it is today!

A lot of the issue with the site this time last year was the lack of focus on the charts and how hard it was to get data. With a proper dedicated VGChartz site now, all the data you need is right their at your fingertips, simply presented, easy to navigate. How can that be a backward step? Similarly if you just want to read the news each day then go to gamrFeed and scroll down and there it is. The site is far simpler and easier to navigate than it has ever been if you ask me. We have more content than probably any other gaming site out there now (charts, forums, news blog, reviews, game database, previews, cheats, screenshots, videos, community pages etc) - I'd say we organise that content pretty well and it is generally pretty easy to find what you want with a couple of clicks. If anyone has a good example of where this isn't the case then let me know and we can work on it!

That said, things can always be improved and with the new gamrConnect site a lot of users should be much happier with the forums and social aspects of the site so and things should become much more streamlined. With websites it is all a process of iteration and improvement, some times we get things wrong but most of the time I think we do a pretty good job!

The only improvement I see that is drastically needed is speed (like a few people have already mentioned). The heavy implementation of flash is nice for looks but bogs the speed way down.  I even upgraded my internet to 20 mbps dl/2 upload and I still see long load times.  However, it seems to happen at certain times (perhaps the heavier traffic periods).  Sometimes this site loads pretty quick and is just as fast as others.  However, sometimes it is very slow and I am just waiting for the site to load.  The main thing I ask you to focus on is speed (make it fast even during high traffic times).  Also, please don't post news articles calling for doom, etc.  I've seen a little too many Nintendo is doomed news stories the past few days.  While each news story might have some legitimate argument against Nintendo; who in their right mind would say Nintendo is doomed (oh wait...  Patcher...).  Anyways, I understand that titles should pull people in to the article but there has to be a better way of doing that than semi offending a person's console preference just to attract more hits.

Has the site really grown ioi?

The news get far less views than 2 years ago, threads rarely get 100 post unless its fanboys war over nothing. We used to have at leat 3 1000 post threads. Now it seems it's 10 to 15 actve users who keep this site alive. Maybe you have more lurkers or more ads, but you are losing your audience. It's not fun here anymore.

Debate may proceed.

What keeps people around is loyalty to eachother, not whats on this website. It's the loyalty to the community... The focus on community has really been lost over the past year. 2.0 was the best mix of everything. It was a little too much for some people at first, but bearable. People got used to it and stuck around. 3.0 was the straw that broke the camels back...  lots of people got disconnected with the feel of the place and the bond they shared with the community. The ones that are left are here because of loyalty and maybe even hoping that feel would come back. We will see how things turn out. I'm hoping the feel comes back myself... I REALLY would love to have that excitement back that I once had working on the database.... I'll still keep chugging along with adding data, just as fast as the website will let me and my patiance. ~_n

I have a degree that is essentially in research and analysis, as well as quantitative and qualitative data formulation.

Is it worth my applying?  It would be somewhat difficult for me due to the time difference (Australian East Coast), but sorting a regular, weekly time could make it quite doable.

It's stuff like the slow site (and slow news) that keeps me from posting more often. That, and the ignorant fanboys here are goddamn annoying.

Yeah, I've been noticing this too. There are maybe two dozen users with 10k or so posts that basically run every single thread and a lot of the veterans have simply disappeared. I think part of what made Vgcartz so popular was the simplicity and easygoing nature of the forums. Its turning more and more into a IGN-type portal with numerous features and lots of staff but it has so many huge and established sites to compete with. NEOGAF seems to be as popular as ever, I think part of it is that it has remained quite simple. Don't get me wrong here, I still love Vgchartz as much as I always have (otherwise, I'd hardly be posting here at all) but it has died down quite a bit lately.

Why do people complain about "fanboys" though? This place had a whole lot more of them a couple of years back. If anything, this site is more sane and reasonable than ever. I do miss the crazies and legends though, so much entertainment and so many funny remarks to remember.

Can all gameDB admins email me - bwalton@vgchartz.com so we can discuss the game db stuff... I have tried emailing some of you previously but never heard back.

Did and done, and if you didn't get my Data Monkey stuff I'll resend that.
