Forums - Sony - LG gets injunction against PS3 sales in Europe!?

This is odd...and strange...anyway if Sony doesn't win the case its really bad for PS3 sales. Right now I see 2 bad things for PS3 possibly happening.

1) The case goes on for a longer time(months) and PS3 can't be sold in Europe casuing PS3 to be outsold by Wii and 360 in its biggest market.

2) Sony has to pay a lot of $ which in return probably means 0% chance of any kind of Price Cut in 2011 and if 360 and Wii both get a Price Cut...again it won't look to good.

If LG wins Sony pays them a whole lotta money, but bear in mind the courts can decide how these payments are made.

Don't think for a second that Sony have to pay it all in one go. It can be spread over many, many  years, like a country's debt....or my debt, come to think of it.

This is the prefect time to release the unhackable LG Proof PS3 model they've been planning since the jailbreak.

That IE is banned in EU is a joke because it was never banned. Forcing MS to make a version of Windows without it besides all those including it, and to offer the user the choice of the default browser at installation time or when using the PC with Windows preinstalled for the first time isn't banning, it's only MS' FUD that likes to define it so. And the undeniable demonstration, if it was ever needed, is that IE is still around here, it just lost a lot of market share now that the same effort is needed to get it or its competitors.

Edit: this said, I agree that Sony suing everybody and his dog was just looking for what happened...

gah specifics I knew you were gonna pull me up for that. Yes I know what happened in Europe, it made it so that a program a company owns is not aloud to have companies own software on it by default... is this correct?

Hence why it is a joke. If it is something as little as a browser then it shouldnt have happened. I hope Chrome, Linux, Apple etc have to do the same thing otherwise utter crap.

The matter is quite simple: being near-monopolist of PC client OS market, MS can't be allowed to do the same things as not predominant competitors, in IE particular case it can't be allowed to use a near-monopoly to try conquering another one, and users are still allowed to freely choose IE, if so they want, but they can't be anymore put before it already chosen as default by the OS producer, I can't really imagine a better situation. But yes, as most EU politicians (like most politicians around the world) don't know a damn about IT, the measures they took could have been a lot better, also in their wording itself.

sucks for anyone that is looking to buy a ps3 (if this goes on past 3 weeks)

It's only for 10 days ATM.

Still, it's no good. Especially given that LG's products are vastly inferior to Sony's.

Lol, no. Sony's TV's SUCK in comparison to LG's, both in terms of picture quality and design.

Back on topic, that's seriously messed up, but I'm sure Sony will settle if they feel they can't win...I thought they paid royalties to all the contributers of Bluray anyway.
