£980 ?? HOw many games is this?

eg comparing that to Australia they automatically approx 2.5x the price haha. So about $2500AUS worth of stuff.

So for me:

Wii here cost me $400. Extra controllers nun chuck and wond about $100 each x 2 = $200. Approximately 65 games @ average price of $80 (includes guitar hero etcc type games with addons) = $5200 => Wii Total = $5800

PS3 = $700 30 games (includes limited edition stuff $200 dollar packages) @ $90 avg = $2700 => PS3 Total = $3400

XBOX360 Elite Halo Edition = $499 and about 10 games @ $50 average (most are from other people) = $500 => 360 Total = $1000

So grand total = $10200AUD approximately.

So for about £3500 can you get the same or more if shopping smartly?

I buy most games 2nd hand or discounted, probably averaged £20 per game for Wii retail over 28 games. (RRP is generally £35 or £40) Plus 15 Wiiware and 10 VC games (which don't get discounted but generally 1000 Wii points = £7.00-7.50)

Since I bought the Wii I also bought Eternal Darkness for GC (£6 I think) and 8 PC games:
GTA:VC - £6
GTA:SA - £12
Sim City 2000 - free from somewhere, can't remember where

On Steam:
Portal - Free
Trackmania - Free
Deus-Ex GotY and Invisible War - £1.50
The Polinomial - £1.50 (though it doesn't work )
Sim City 4 - £2.50

- Look at box of system.

- If it says SONY its BEST GAMES LIBRARY!

Seriously I pick option 3.

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Good thread. This is why the X360 is the standard console in this gen.

Name a HD game and you can probably play it on a X360.

Same with PS3 though.

I say look at games you want to play versus the games you can't play. All exclusives do is make a console stand out, not put make the other seem weaker.

Exclusives do tend to play better than multiplats though.

Anything but standard with its little lead.

well I am not sure what kind of wages UK people get but I guess for sample I bought GTA:VC for $20AUD is is probably about £6 but on PS2. So quite old now.

Wii points cards are about $20AUD for 100points I think. So I guess the exchange rate sort applies well to the UK pound.

I guess to put things into perspective, that $10,000AUD was spend over roughly 3 years which would be about 10% of my total wage earned in three years after tax. Would £3500 roughly equate to 10% of 3 years averge wages after tax?

I guess you mean $20AUD for 1000points otherwise that's a serious rip-off... if you buy a "nintendo" points card in a shop now it's £20 for 2000 points... before they combined Wii and DS points though Wii points were £15 for 2000... and I now buy them from the channel instead with a credit card because 2000 points comes to £14.

minimum wage here is £5.93 per hour..... and average yearly salary is probably about £25k so over 3 years £75k... although those are before tax.

When I bought the Wii in Feb 2007 though I was at Uni.
In the 4 years since I "joined this gen" I have earned about £6000 after tax, so gaming has taken up a little over 1/6th that... although I currently live with my parents so I don't have proper rent/mortgage etc to pay.

yes sorry I meant 1000points.

Also you being a UNI student kind of makes it hard to compare.

However you mentioned 75K is the average salary over 3 years before tax. So 3500 pounds would roughly be 5%. I guess after taxes it may approach the 10% mark too.

So I guess in a way based on wages etc.. it sorta does not seem too bad any more in Australia. Considering the the past games where $100each and NO MOVEMENT. Now they launch in the range of $65-$89. Then sometimes go up to $100 after a week out at launch. Specials also bring alot of the older games below the $50AUD mark, which in the past would rearly happen (well where I live anyway).

I guess what I am getting at is I feel a little less ripped off now then I use to in the past with the local market prices.

THANKS FOR THE DETAIL.
