cause 10 year plan does not work with phones.  people can't barely wait 2 years for their phone plan to run out before they are begging for a NEW phone

You're still more likely to get laid if you have an iPhone though. Besides, I think Apple controls something like 61% of the $300 or more smartphone market. If Sony gets more than 2% of that I would be surprised.

YMMV but the fact android is open source and any phone maker can use it makes android much cooler than the iPhone OS. A totally locked down proprietary product, IMO, is the height of uncool. Now jailbreaking the iPhone, that's cool. Yep I said it, it's one thing that's uncool about all the consoles.

As to Xperia play being a generic phone, I'll refer you to the last word in your post. Unless of course you can find me another phone that has PSP-like controls on a slide out panel and can play PSOne and PSP (minis at least) games. Lack of PSP full game compatibility is distinctly uncool and is pretty much the reason I won't be getting it unless/until they announce that it is coming.

That's not to say the Xperia Play is cooler than the iPhone from the perspective of the market. But for myself there's a lot more in the Xperia Play that I find cool than in the iPhone.

As to the Sony Marketing people using the word "cool" and saying "cooler than the iphone" before the device goes on market. Well methinks whoever decided to go with that marketing strategy ought to be demoted to the mailroom. YOu can say the device is coolere than the iphone if it sells more than the iPhone within a certain time period (perhaps a quarter), other than that it's hot air.

This whole thing seems half assed.

It's half smart phone, because all the latest phones will be duo core in no time.

It's half a game machine because it won't get many new games which are control specific.

It's all shiny and new now. It will be dead when the Duo Cored Android/iPhone 5 are out, which is only a few months away.

The Android is open source yes, but few people buy from the Android market, so its gonna harder to sell a game on it. Another thing about Android is its on EVERY kind of phone, and each one has different specs so its even harder to create a game on it.

The phone is generic, but it has a PSP built in, big whoop. Android is becoming a generic OS and PSP already being out since 200whatever, its generic. Now the PSP2 built into a phone that be unique, because no one has the PSP2 yet and its hasnt been out since when ever.

There is a reason a new Iphone comes out every year.
