Forums - Nintendo - Why don't western 3rd party developers support Nintendosystems?

@lordtheknight  If you bought a Wii console and were expecting a certain kind of support you were wrong. Is the Wii getting that support??? No. Guess what? I thought the Wii would have more core support too so I was wrong. THe only difference is im not going to whine about it, whats done is done. My main gripe is people cry and moan that they are not getting "core" games but the same ones crying are the ones that never play any thing anyway. It seems some people want it for some "pricipal" or cause they "deserve" it. When was the last time you bought a game for the Wii that wasnt Ninty made???

The principle is that people will buy the games they want because, now try to follow this because it's a pretty big leap, it's the games they want. Developers will make money for people buying those games because, now try to follow this because it's a pretty big leap, people will be buying those games.

You seem to think we want more Wii support just because we bought it. That shows you aren't paying attention. We want more Wii support because we will buy their games. Not just a few of us, lots of us, but we have to a) get the games, b) know about them, and c) know the game is worth buying. And don't even try to claim those are unreasonable conditions, since all three are done with the 360 and PS3.

That's not about what we "deserve". It's business. You're acting as though developers shouldn't get called on for ignoring an audience they can get more profit from. That's stupid, and is ignorant of how people have treated stupid business decisions throughout history.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

^^^ the thing is, i do agree with the top half of your statement. But heres the thing what is a BIG game??? What a big game on Wii is might not be a big game on the HDs and vice versa. A mario like game is big on Wii, a dancing game is big on Wii, might not be as big on HDs. shooting the crap out of stuff is huge on HDs not so much on Wiis( thinking COD) and hitting stuff and anything having to do with violence and anything online heavy. I think Wii has some big games, what are these big games you are talking about that Wii didnt get???

Devs are not ignoring the audience, what your ignoring is that the large blue ocean on Wii out number the core gamers and they dont give a crap about these big core games. So they give them what they do care about, dancing, exercise and Wiisports clones

Didn't a really strict censorship in past Nintendo system also have effect on N64 ?

Nope.  Once the ESRB was in place (and similar industry ratings boards were created in other markets), Nintendo became the most lenient of the hardware manufacturers.  The GC version of BMX XXX is actually the version with the least amount of censorship for example.

To give you an idea of what things were like back then, here's an old interview with Enix of America back around when DQVII was getting ready to release.

RPGFan: Did Nintendo give you any problems about the rating?

John: Nintendo really doesn't give us any problems about the content in our RPGs. They're pretty hands-off now that the ESRB is around. The only company that has given us problems is like Sony.

The nes had some difficulties also due to computers at the time but since nes destroyed them they had to side with nintendo

Interesting I've read that Sega was much more friendly toward mature content which was further emphasized by sege does what Nintendon't campaign.

Western third parties ignore Nintendo consoles because:

A) Nintendo fanboys only seem to care about games actually made by Nintendo.

B) The Japanese only seem to care about games made in Japan.

Add the two together and western developers are pretty much guaranteed to loose money releasing games on the Wii unless it is something like Mickey Mouse.

Nintendo's "kiddy" image is well earned.

Fail troll is fail.

No More Heroes, it's sequel, House of the Dead: Overkill, HOTD 1 & 2 Returns, MadWorld, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, RE: Darkside Chronicles, and RE4 would all like to say hi.

3 parties seems to be scared of nintendo, maybe they dont trust themselves much... A good game can sell well on any console, all they need is a good game, some marketing, at least something, I bet some wii games are only known in forums and gaming sites...

 Let me quote this example...

Q: You had a lot of success on the DS at a time when others wouldn't touch it, whether because they didn't think they could score a hit without being a Nintendo first-party title, or that piracy was too prevalent. So what was your thinking about the platform and support for it at the time?

Joseph Tringali: It's funny. We would talk to publishers and they would tell us the same thing, 'Nintendo is untouchable, nobody competes with Nintendo, don't even bother with original games'. And we thought, why? Nobody could give us that answer. The only answer would be 'because it's Nintendo'. They have advantages of course but there's no reason why gamers wouldn't buy a game from somebody else that was like a Nintendo game. A lot of ways, in the DS space, we sought to emulate Nintendo and its mass-market appeal. How the art is inoffensive - Nintendogs, Brain Age, everybody plays them. For us, we added our hook to Scribblenauts and Drawn to Life. We cornered the market by saying, 'look, even Nintendo doesn't have what we have'.

So it really does look like stubbornness. They don't even had good reasons anymore.

I say it is more of the war has gone on for so long no one knows why it started because all those who started it have long gone.

So third patries like Sony and Microsoft because they are pushovers and their games suck.

maybe, who knows, maybe they just think they can compete with sony and microsoft with no problem, but they dont trust themselves much to compete with nintendo and their kind of games...
