I guess the Portugese Wii forgot it should be dying.

The Wii dominates while dying.

Which is only a little worse than being dead while dominating.

Wonder what markets are still left for nintendo to top. Even in the decline stages, they are total marketshare holders in many key areas. What is left?

Well they could try to attack 10% or 20% market share barrier they have in Poland ;)

That's really low

I did go on a school trip to Poland (Krakow to be precise) back in June 2007.  We went into several gaming/entertainment stores (I can remember Empik was one of them) and back then the Wii's marketshare didn't seem too bad compared to PS3/360; PC gaming had a massive section and probably took up a good 40% of the gaming area.

Off topic, but I actually got Final Fantasy VI Advance in Poland for the contemparary Zloty equilivant of £32, which is a bargain considering how much the game goes for online.  The strange thing is that the game had the green triangle on it, indicating it was originally meant for the U.K/Irish markets.  So myself, a U.K school tourist went to Poland and bought an imported U.K/Irish game in the local store.

Well there's no real data for Poland but the only published market share data I have seen came from Media Markt chain of stores (big supermarkets with tvs, consoles, fridges, kitchens etc) had Nintendo as a whole (DS Wii) at <10 %.

As for Asia athats PlayStation Countries... Nintendo cant do much against PS3 , only next gen.

Not entirely true, when Nintendo actually puts some weight into their efforts, they generally see great results.  Korea's a good example, it's the one Asian market (outside Japan) where Nintendo set up an office and has an official presence and it's also the one Asian market (outside Japan) where Wii leads PS3 and 360 by notable margins (despite launching much, much later than both I might add).

If Nintendo had an official presence in more markets (rather than simply working through 3rd party distributors and importers), they'd probably be similarly dominating those markets.  Europe used to be "PlayStation Country" just a few years ago, and look at it today...

Nunca pensei ver este dia chegar :D

Never thought see this day coming... Im Portuguese and over here Sony dominated big time... NO MORE!

Pedro Almeida, Portugal country manager of Sony said in an interview with Smash in April 2010, something very different and I quote: "we sold 250,000 PS3 lifetime ... we are the company with largest market share in the WORLD IN ANY PLATFORM" .

I find it very difficult that the Wii in just seven months, has reversed a situation where it was clearly defeated, to get ahead in total sales. Do not buy these numbers.

Just to contextualize, Sony had once a 90% market share in Portugal making justice to the "Sonyland" epithet. Other data of interest show that Portugal showed in 2010 a healthy growth in the market of video games following an already excellent year of 2009.

Gfk reported a 17,4% growth in 2009 to a total value of 184.000.000€ and the preliminary data shows that 2010 followed that tendency.

So, market share numbers:

Nintendo Wii: 25,4% ( 375.000 units) growth of 52,2%

PS3: 24,3% ( -359.000 units) growth of 11%

What's this? Positive news on a doom and gloom day?

In addition, you did not read the article carefully, the Wii sold 25.45% of  375 000, ie 95 000. The PS3, according to the article, has sold 24.3%, ie 91 000 and not 359 000 as you refer.

O artigo em português: http://www.ionline.pt/conteudo/105461-nintendo-wii-destrona-playstation-3-em-2010-mercado-continua-imparavel

Os números vêm directamente da GfK.

The numbers come from GfK. If you don't buy them, then.... there's really nothing that can be done.

"as vendas da consola familiar da Nintendo cresceram 52,2% e alcançaram uma quota de 25,4% do total - mais de 375 mil unidades vendidas no país."
25,4% é o marketshare no mercado.

"Já a PlayStation 3, da Sony, foi ultrapassada, mas também progrediu em vendas: conseguiu 24,3% do mercado e subiu 11%"
Mesma coisa. 24,3% é o marketshare no mercado (lifetime)

Tá escrito no teu post Nintendo Wii: 25,4% ( 375.000 units) growth of 52,2%

PS3: 24,3% ( -359.000 units) growth of 11%

Onde foste buscar os 359 mil? Não entendes que são 24,3% dos mesmos 375 mil?
